Work to transform former industrial park for 200 home development underway

The Ewenny Road Industrial Estate site was formerly home to the cosmetics company, Revlon’s factory – later taken over by Creative Outsourcing Solutions International (Cosi), and adjacent automotive parts manufacturer, Cooper Standard’s factory.

Using Cardiff Capital Region funding, Bridgend County Borough Council and Clowes Developments are working together to remove redundant infrastructure from the derelict site, ensure that previous mine shafts and culverts are filled in, and that unused pipes and cables can be diverted.

With planning permission already in place, this work will make the site ready for a developer to carry out new landscaping and construction which will include up to 200 new homes, new public open space, new retail units, and a new enterprise and employability hub.

Bridgend County Borough Council say that part of the overall site will also be used to develop new employment opportunities and a transport interchange that will ensure people can travel outside of the valley for additional work and training purposes.

Councillor Neelo Farr, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economic Development and Housing, said: “This ambitious project forms part of our Local Development Plan and has been carefully designed to ensure that it meets local housing, employment, and transportation needs.

“Once Clowes have completed the ground works, they will have transformed this former industrial estate into our largest local valleys brownfield site with more than 16 acres available for redevelopment.

“At the same time, the council is retaining an additional three acres so that we can develop new employment opportunities and a modern transport interchange.

“The finished project will deliver huge economic and social benefits for both the Llynfi Valley and Bridgend County Borough, and I am delighted to see that the work is making swift progress.”

Marc Freeman, Development Director at Clowes said: “We are extremely pleased that this major regeneration project has finally commenced which will bring much needed new homes and amenities to the area.

“It has been refreshing to work with Cardiff Capital Region and Bridgend County Borough Council, who have been so focused on delivering the project.”
