There has been lots said about 2024 being a poor year for pumpkins and squash in the UK. It has also been notable for: squirrels ring barking sycamore trees, causing a lot of crown death; tiny walnuts; tiny chestnuts. Chestnuts are 25mm max; green walnuts 40mm. Unlikely to have formed a kernel. I have germinated walnuts three years of the last six and chestnuts last year. Green fruits/nuts (walnuts) and small sweet chestnuts, brown and stripy, against a dark background. Six green walnuts, one of them has it's green husk starting to decay, brown/black.

I peeled them this weekend. I have frozen for use later. Sone kept whole to try and germinate. Fiddly job peeling chestnuts, I can understand why puree is so popular #chestnut #foraging #castanea

Very early morning, the outline of a large chestnut tree with branches barren, outlined against office buildings in the distance.

#Cottbus ist eine Gartenstadt. Und auch die Erben Pücklers waren Genießer und haben sehr umsichtig #Edelkastanien, #Castanea sativa oder auch #Marone genannt, in die vielen Parkanlagen gepflanzt. Der aktuelle Frühsport besteht aus Bücken, Bücken, Bücken. Und anschließendem Sprint zur Küche.

Auf einer Parkbank liegt ein geöffneter Einkaufsbeutel. Darin braune Edelkastanien. Vor der Bank ist der Plattenweg übersät von teils nochj unaufgeplatzten Fruchthüllen.
