#CodeIgniter is a good alternative to #Laravel if you need something lightweight for your project.
Not very obvious but Laravel middlewares can be mimicked by codeigniter filters.
Codeigniter now also has job queues (beta).
#Laravel is fantastic. It has raised quite a lot of venture capital and some people are rightly worried about eventual enshittification of several kinds!

When I posted about CodeIgniter earlier today, I didn't realize how recent the latest release came out. But now I know... version 4.5.6 was released today.
I think some people think CI is dead, but it's clearly not. And now I think I'm going to spin up my next site using it instead of Symfony.

@b0rk thats why i'm a big fan of stuff like rails or #borkweb or #codeigniter . At least it strips out the setup thing out
Surprisingly, it is loading on php 7.4 with only a few minor edits to 5 files thus far. I still need to test the major functionality of the site to find any issues in the code that I myself wrote (again ... almost 15 years ago), but the CI framework code itself appears to be working okay.
I want to get it working on php 7.4 first. Then I'll address the php 8.3 issues.

My task this week: get a website that is currently being served on php 5.6 working on php 8.3.
This particular site was the first site I worked on at my current employer ... almost 15 years ago. 😳 It is built on CodeIgniter 2.0.3 (& is still on that version).
We don't host the site. The host has never asked us to make it work on newer versions of php. And this particular client doesn't have a lot of extra money.
I'm glad that we're FINALLY updating it.
