Definitely much quieter today with BOFs underway at #RSECon24. Currently in the project management session where Sarah Jaffa is trying to get us to put people over processes. Currently listening to @codemonkey_mike summarizing the @SoftwareSaved #CollabW24's hack day project "Task Management for Humans as Self-Care" being really honest about why he cares. One of the reasons I love CWs is the projects it kickstarts. So many sessions here were just CW ideas a few months ago.
At the @SoftwareSaved's #CollabW24 we did a collaborative session on how research software engineers (#RSE) can engage in and contribute to #citizenscience projects.
Thanks to a lot of work by @ccamara this has now culminated in a “speed-blog post" on the SSI blog: https://www.software.ac.uk/blog/how-rses-can-engage-and-benefits-doing-so-citizen-science-projects
💡 In this first #CollabW24 speed blog @ccamara, @gedankenstuecke, Georgia Aitkenhead, Rachel Alcraft, and @nickynicolson explore ways in which RSEs can engage in citizen science projects. Recovering from the Collaborations Workshop 2024 #collabw24. It was an intense and also enjoyable couple of days. My heartfelt thanks go to the organisers, who pulled all of this off.
There've been a lot of discussions about environmentally sustainable computing at the Collaborations Workshop 2024 #collabw24 . Catch up on my interview with Loic Lannelongue at https://codeforthought.buzzsprout.com/1326658/14838208-en-make-computing-greener-loic-lannelongue or in your podcast app
Had a great afternoon at #CollabW24
First we had a great discussion about #CitizenScience and how research software engineers can contribute to it, followed by a mini-workshop on "community co-creation" that my colleagues Georgia Aitkenhead, @KirstieJane and I co-facilitated.
And rounding it out now with Lucy Robinson talking on "creating advocates through community science".

🔴 We're at Collaborations Workshop this week (both in Warwick and online)!
#CollabW24 brings together researchers, software developers, managers, funders and more to explore important ideas in software and research
The Turing Way has long roots at Collaborations Workshop: we were first launched at #CollabW19 as a lightly opinionated guide to data science!
This year, we're celebrating our 5 year anniversary at #CollabW24, complete with cake and celebrations! 🎂🎉
Olexandr Konovalov at #CollabW24 on the state of Software Carpentry for Ukraine, working on translating lessons. 🇺🇦 read more here: https://olexandr-konovalov.github.io/posts/2024/04/18/ukrainian-carpentry/
Also I'll leave @baldur's point along these lines here:
«Several times over the past two decades we’ve had tech arrive which observers and researchers have discovered has serious and measurable detrimental effects on society at large, but the enthusiasts will go “it saves me an entire half-hour a day!” and consider the argument won.»

«Five principles for building generative AI products» @arfon's keynote title for #CollabW24 🙄
tl;dr:
1. no decisions: use "AI" as 'assistive technology’
2. design for failure, consider the cost of getting it wrong
3. have it be grounded in reality
4. make it invite only: opt-in to using it
5. leverage: “explain like it's me”: personalize responses to personal knowledge level
(My 6. obvious addition: as we say in German: “wes Brot ich ess, des Lied ich sing”)
Attending the #SSI's #CollabW24 online today and tomorrow. This year #CitizenScience is one of the topics, so lots of fun program to look forward to. Including a mini-workshop we're organising this afternoon on community co-creation.

This year's #SSI #CollabW24 is the first Collaborations Workshop since 2018 that I won't attend 😢.
Wishing all who go to Warwick or attend remotely fantastic intense days of new and fruitful collaborations around #ResearchSoftware at the best workshop series there is!
And hopefully see you again at #CollabW25!
Gradually making my way to Warwick University for this year's Collaboration Workshop #SSI #SoftwareSaved #CollabW24. There's quite an interesting range of topics and I look forward to meeting old friends and make new ones.
Our friends at the SSI are hosting their annual Collaborations Workshop. The 2024 edition will take place as a hybrid event at the University of Warwick, UK, from Tuesday 30 April to Thursday 2 May. #CollabW24

About 10 days left to register for Collaborations Workshop 2024! The #CollabW24 agenda (https://www.software.ac.uk/cw24-agenda) is shaping up, including keynotes by @arfon, Citizen Science by the Natural History museum, tons of cool workshops (like a birthday party for @turingway !): https://www.software.ac.uk/cw24
On my way back from #CollabW23, the best workshop on the planet. Great to have been able to go in person again, and equally great to work with people hybridly, which worked well IMHO (keen to see what the feedback from online participants is).
One highlight was meeting co-@codeforsociety@twitter.com-DII alumni @turongemma@twitter.com and @saranjeet in person, and hacking together in the best ever team towards a definition of criteria for #SoftwareAuthorship 😍.
Until #CollabW24!
