23km walk today from Hethpool up the border rigg to The Curr, then back along lovely College Valley.

I passed the site of three plane crashes from World War 2 - there's 19 in total in this part of the hills.

A very green view looking down steep slopes across to a stream draining hills in the distance.

The foreground here is the site of the crash of the DORNIER 217 U5+DL German Aircraft which crashed here on 15th March 1943

Some twisted metal and rusting pipe lie in a small area of bare, rocky ground on a grassy slope. Away to the north under a cloudy sky, green hills stretch down to Scottish Border's countryside to the horizon.

This is the remains of a De Havilland Mosquito, which crashed on 12 December 1944, killing pilot Henry Medcalf (27) and navigator Ronald Bellamy (21)

A memorial post , a black plaque on a square wooden post, lies as grassy ground slopes steeply down to a hidden burn. Hillsides criss cross to a high ridge in the distnace under a grey sky.

This is the marker post for the crash of a Hawker Hurricane on 2 June 1943, killing its pilot Sgt G R Dawson RAFVR aged 23 years:

The Cheviot Memorial.

A black stone engraved in gold with the following stands on a round plinth, on which 5 poppy wreaths have been placed:

"Dedicated to the memory of the airmen who lost their lives on the Cheviot Hills as a result of the Second World War"

Then the emblem of the RAF

"Per Ardua Ad Astra"

on top of the stone is an engraved panel that lists all 19 crashes in the hills, and their details. The area enclosed by a dry stone wall and red chippings are on the ground. Behind, the beuatiful College valley, with green and wooded hills, sits under a cloudy sky
