car drivers seeing big potholes worry about their tyres, alignments, and shocks. cyclists seeing them know that they're risking life and limb:-
"You can't buy a new collarbone,... you can't buy a new cheekbone... [you] go over the handlebars, ... fall off and slam on the concrete, and it typically results in some pretty nasty orthopedic injuries."

A side project I've been working on: A map of bike and pedestrian collisions in Lexington, KY in 2025: https://projects.blakeshall.com/bike-ped/index.html
Still needs some polish, but it's mostly done. I'm not a designer by any means. Once I have the design pinned down I plan on expanding it to cover more years.
I'm excited that Mayor Mamdani is proposing to do best practices: create #CompleteStreets and improve visibility at intersections with daylighting
The purpose of being a progressive change agent is to help people. He will be saving lives. @wutrain.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy please improve street safety in Boston

Comment by Representative Sam Graves, chair of House #Transportation & #Infrastructure Committee, about #Amazon & EVs makes sense. https://sfba.social/@bikemonterey/115629233928631866
But we weren’t happy he also said the following in that Nov 5 interview re: proposals for 2026 federal highway bill. Why? Keep in mind that many highways also serve as community surface streets.
Rep Graves said: “It’s gonna be a traditional highway bill — that means building roads & bridges, laying asphalt, pouring concrete. We’re not gonna be spending money on murals in train stations, or bike paths, or walking paths. We’re going to spend money on traditional infrastructure, that’s roads & bridges.”
We encourage people throughout USA to contact Rep Graves, as well as your own representative in Congress; and let them know you want #CompleteStreets—not streets designed only for users of motor vehicles.
Californians, #CalBike has a related action page. Do note their typo; Graves said murals IN not murals AND train stations. https://www.calbike.org/pave-first-and-ask-questions-later/?emci=d56cccc2-fbca-f011-8195-000d3a1d58aa&emdi=e66cccc2-fbca-f011-8195-000d3a1d58aa&ceid=2203703
You don’t have to ban cars everywhere to transform your city centre. But you do have to seriously rethink and redefine the car’s role. There are many ways to do that, from #completestreets to #sharedstreets, pedestrian priority streets & Dutch #woonerfs, that prioritize streets for people, not cars.

I am all in on Jeff Speck's concept of urban triage. But what about the vulnerable populations who live around the most awful stroads? https://brucefnesmith.blogspot.com/2025/10/10th-anniversary-post-collins-road.html #CompleteStreets #transportationplanning #JeffSpeck #CedarRapids
Protected bike lanes are like giving your entire community a mobility vaccination - every mode of travel receives the safety benefits, not just bikers
#CompleteStreets = #HerdImmunity

I've been teaching this course for 8 years and just now realized I have never needed to update my slides on "pedestrian and bicycle death traps DOTs haven't gotten around to fixing" #bikesky #completestreets #roadsafety
But your suggestion is a great way to achieve multiple goals, and exactly what @jfh01.bsky.social delivered on the Centre St #CompleteStreets reconfiguration There are 2 less travel lanes for cars, new protected bike lanes, safer streets, & no impacts on travel time www.boston.gov/departments/...
Thank you to John Corcoran's son and the folks who planned the road violence vigil for writing this opinion Bike lanes are not a "controversial" issue that cynical politicians can use to get a few votes, they are a BEST PRACTICE in creating #CompleteStreets

Our loved ones died biking in ...
Meanwhile, no helicopter hovered over Seaver and Humboldt intersection in Roxbury, a place crashes happen like clockwork, where a car driver hit someone on a scooter
Preventing crashes is about making streets safer with #CompleteStreets and slowing traffic

Would love to see a full-throated defense of #CompleteStreets like this by @wutrain.bsky.social. She ran on safe streets & micromobility. It's been embarrassing to watch her backpedal under soft attacks from a suburban 💰 nepo baby
You're up by 30 points and you're caving? What do you stand for?

This is by the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, all these schools and the Islamic Center, connecting Nubian Busway and Roxbury Crossing T station, and the SW Corridor Why no bus lanes, a bikeway, and #CompleteStreets? This looks like highway urban renovation still 😭
But speaking of cartoonish... safe streets and #CompleteStreets are incredibly popular. What people hate is gridlock and traffic congestion Reminds me of the reporting on NYC's congestion pricing where people only hate a proposed change, not the actually thing once it exists #BostonBikeNetwork
🚴♂️ #Brantford’s #EastWard bike loop links neighbourhoods, jobs & schools w/decent infrastructure
But the intersections? That’s where it breaks down
The connections between routes still need work
8/ Please! Give me your best characters (or caricatures) for my next group of students to inhabit and channel as they attempt to work together to redesign a college town/downtown street. Thank you!!! #CompleteStreets #Planning #RPG
Four lanes. Barely any cars.
No bike lanes?
Dunsdon Street in #Brantford is the poster child for car-first planning that no longer makes sense.
