How can #contentDesign and #accessibility work hand-in-hand? My colleagues Marion and Sue shared how they worked on Germany’s court claims justice service, transformed legal language into citizen-friendly #plainLanguage and created new content patterns. Here’s the recording from #GAAD: #WCAG

Content strategy and UX legend Kristina Halvorson’s Button blog has invited me to submit a second draft of my article on trauma-informed content and AI - which she called “outstanding… just excellent work!” ☺️ #UX #ContentDesign #ContentStrategy

Micro trauma is real and wrecks your users’ ability to focus. This stuff doesn't usually show up in user research. Today, I present two new frameworks for creating trauma-informed content that actually helps when users are overwhelmed. In reality, most users are. #UX #ContentDesign #TraumaInformed

Have you ever added an artificial delay to increase trust? I did precisely that at the Cabinet Office. Our automated background checks were so fast that people didn't believe they were thorough. Timing isn’t just technical. It’s perceptual, emotional and contextual. 🧵 #contentdesign #ux #timinghacks

Trauma-informed content is everywhere. It really is. Take something as simple as a rejection email after a job application. It takes seconds to find posts by highly qualified people, depressed by failed applications and rejections. 🧵 #recruitment #ux #contentdesign #contentstrategy #traumainformed

As a content specialist, I've worked on major trauma-informed services for Cancer Research UK, the Met Police and the Cabinet Office. But trauma-informed content design is about a lot more than life-changing events. 🧵 #MicroTrauma #ContentDesign #DigitalAccess #UserNeeds #StressAndCognition #UX

#Jargon is like stepping stones? Does lack of clarity cause hesitation? Is it like getting stuck on a stone in the middle of crossing a river? #ContentDesign

Picture of stones across a river and text about how jargon works well if it enables you to move fast and achieve goal. If it causes hesitation as it’s unclear then it is not right.

I want to bring emotional intelligence, nuance and a better understanding of the human experience to content and UX design. The pain in a name — Is information architecture right to call itself architecture?

I have long felt uneasy about modern occupations associating themselves with high-status traditional professions. This has been brought into sharp focus for me since I started a role last year focusing heavily on information architecture, to the annoyance of my wife Alex, who is an actual architect.

New research shows GPT-4.5 was judged to be human 73% of the time in Turing tests, more often than actual humans. Having designed content for vulnerable users at Cancer Research UK and Police.uk, this has serious implications for my work. 🧵 #AI #ContentDesign #Ethics #UX #TuringTest #Technology

The key is to be transparent and set clear boundaries for AI use. People - especially vulnerable ones - need to know whether they are dealing with AI or a human. Trust is crucial in government digital. Mistakes in implementing AI could erode that trust. #contentdesign #contentstrategy #technology
