I came across this very helpful (and, be warned, very long) essay. The gist is that the "culture-control left" are, despite appearances, authoritarian/anti-liberal.

My view is that this provokes a populist reaction (e.g. the current regime in the US), again in an anti-liberal direction.

The article ends with practical suggestions for how liberal left-leaning individuals (among whom I include myself) can respond.
