Fatal attraction; fatal distraction...
I believe that almost everybody's preference to wage a culture war, instead of a class war, will eventually be viewed as the fatal mistake of our time. The fatal attraction. The fatal distraction.
Culture wars pit ordinary people, having ordinary wealth, against each other—motivated by identity politics and tribalism (which are strategically indistinguishable). Thus, embroiled in their current strife, culture warriors are largely ignoring their true, common enemy.
But please don't say you agree unless you can actually name some standard cultural objective(s) that you're now willing to stop fighting for. In order to develop a stronger bond with other culture warriors who disapprove. Thereby de-escalating the current war through your sacrifice and outreach.
Example: considering the major economic abuse we suffer, like irreparable environmental exploitation, privacy obliteration, and obscene wealth disparity (leading to even worse harms via military action!), I feel it hardly matters how certain sports leagues define gender right now. Call me crazy.
So, how about this—? In light of the unprecedented economic pillaging, let's turn away from organized sports culture in general; and redirect all of its energy, fandom, and competitiveness toward more worthy causes. Even if they are less culturally appealing. Even if they are less attractive.
Just one example, there. I'm sure you can think of more.
