Any recommendations out there for a lightweight resource to add zombie survival scenario mechanics into a high trust #dnd #5e game? Party heading towards a part of the world that's getting a little overrun, so trying to prep... #dmprep #ttrpg
Experimenting with using tab groups to organize my encounters for tonight's Greyhawk '76 campaign.
All the monsters and NPCs are on D&D Beyond, and tonight's encounters have seven or so entries. That's a lot of tabs to be switching between (especially when you add in all the other tabs I'll open in game). #Greyhawk #GamePrep #DMPrep #DnD2024 #DnD5e
Check out @phd20 review the prep steps from Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master from @slyflourish I am huge fan of the Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master and love his prep sessions . It is always going back to church. Running a good game isn’t somthing that you “finish” it’s more a practice and I always love seeing others practice their craft.
Positive: one of my players realised that the world had _history_
Negative: they asked what year it was
Positive: I now know exactly what year it is, and have three royal lines stretching back over 800 years.

So one of the consequences of the party's first foray into the Feywild was a character purchasing something in exchange for 'something that is lost'. Now I need a fun way for that bargain to come into realisation, ideally in an unexpected moment... Ideas? #dnd5e #ttrpg #dmprep #DMProblems
Really happy with this bugbear #mini! Going from bigger monsters down to this scale is a transition 🔍
We are 1.5 weeks away from my big birthday D&D weekend where I’ll be DM’ing my way through the epic finale of Dragon Heist and on to either Dungeon of the Mad Mage or maybe Shattered Obelisk, depending on which hooks my players go for. I’ve been having a blast prepping a little bit for both campaigns, and will probably share some more posts here about my prep. I’ll tag these posts with #dmprep if you want to follow along.

So I'm working on writing up an RPG quest for an Eberron game. I asked myself the question, who in a university would send adventurers grave robbing. And well, the better question is who in archeology wouldn't.
So the question changed to who's the funniest quest giver. And that's the grad student who needs physical evidence quick to support the dissertation they're defending.
Anyone got any suggestions of a 5e one shot I can drop into a campaign that's taken a fairly serious turn to add a bit of light relief? Possibly something a bit fey with an Alice in Wonderland vibe? A bit of an out of this world holiday trip, that's not going to mess with bigger picture story stuff. #ttrpg #dnd #dnd5e #dmprep
Great moments as a DM: when the character you've been secretly prepping a new arc, and ancestral weapon for to give them a bit more presence in a campaign decides to go against the whole of the rest of the party, and ends the session 0HP, on the floor with death saves looming... #dnd5e #ttrpg #dmprep
Bypassing the hard part of DMing (making your printer do the right thing) by getting large-format prints made at Staples 🫠

@slyflourish For in-person play: flat glass cabochons are cheap (e.g. $0.25 each), available at many hobby/craft stores, very durable, and you can write on them with wet- or dry-erase markers, or glue/tape art on their underside for a more polished look.

@pinkdicegm I'm getting a games "corner" going in my basement too. Right now, I'm focusing on the basics, but once I've got that, my first ambiance upgrade is going to be acoustics. Gotta get some carpeting, maybe drapes or felt for the walls. Although maybe these echoes would be suitable when dungeon delving 😅

Personally, I think the standout idea was adding some simple mechanics for movement on the frozen pond. Villagers have cleared it for skating, so it's nice and smooth. If you're already moving when you get to the pond, your remaining movement is doubled as you slide across, thanks to your running start. But if you start from a standstill, or try to get up from prone, it's difficult terrain. Added a little bit of something interesting without being complicated.
