В 2007-2008 действительно казалось, что файлообмен (прежде всего через торренты) уже вот-вот полностью убьёт заржавевший копирайт. Интернет децентрализован, природа компьютеров состоит в копировании, и поэтому навязать "копирайт" никому невозможно.
Все ждали тотального превращения пассивных потребителей в творцов, и чуть ли не конца капитализма.

Тем не менее, уже через 15 лет и капитализм, и копирайт адаптировались к новым условиям. Файлообмен всё ещё жив, но скорее воспринимается как нечто маргинальное по сравнению с централизованными гигантами #Netflix, #Spotify и т.д. И их пользователей уж никак нельзя назвать "творцами".

Конечно, какие-то изменения произошли: например, физические носители музыки и фильмов практически вымерли (кому нужны CD-диски?). Теперь потребитель платит за "подписку на стриминг". Подозреваю, что маржинальность торговли торговли медиа также уменьшилась.

Соблюдение "копирайта" обеспечивается навязыванием "приложений", которые не позволяют пользователю копировать любые байтики на своём собственном устройстве. Как известно, "приложение - это веб-страница, завёрнутая в слои интеллектуальной собственности". Вот тут эта юридическая защита от взлома и изучения пришлась весьма кстати. Контент физически доставляется на смартфон или компьютер, но копировать его куда-либо ещё за пределы "приложения" затруднительно технически, а главное - запрещено законом.

Свою роль сыграли и доступный быстрый Интернет, и всеобщий переход на мобильные устройства. Но мне кажется, что главная техническая новация, которую применили медиа-корпорации - это всё-таки вот эта "защита от копирования через приложение".
Так потребители остались потребителями, а корпорации получили ещё больше контроля над вычислительными устройствами этих самых потребителей.
Адаптация капитализма к изменившимся технологическим условиям.

I wonder if any games made a game play mechanic where all the powerups, guns and spare parts etc... are locked behind a DRM paywall or subscription like HP Ink.

I think this will work well for games like cyberpunk 2077. Plus it might provide an interesting mechanic of going to a shady hacker for a modchip to bypass the DRM... but piss off the companies making it.

You could also throw a right to repair techie in as well.

Tough to forbid it - but Canada could remove the DRM anti-circumvention parts of our copyright law that were added solely to satisfy the USA and its copyright monopolists.

Then Canadian companies could make, and you could buy and use, a teeny little HDCP-stripper box so every TV would work with any device.

The owner of OnlyFans, Fenix International Limited sent a DCMA takedown notice to GitHub, insisting they remove several projects that aimed to reverse engineer the popular Widevine DRM that is used in many media platforms.

There are a couple curiosities in this case though, such as Fenix providing specific personal details of contributors, and some over-reaching responses when GitHub reached out to them for clarification on what aspects were infringing.

Big mistake yesterday. Someone recommended Sarah Painter, but I couldn't find her books on Ebooks. I don't want to use Amazon any more, and I've been reading non-DRM books on iBooks. (When DRM, Ebooks forces you to use Adobe, which I hate). So I bought Ms Painter's books - they're pretty good - through Apple. Which locks you into the Apàple universe as tightly as Amazon locks you into Amazon. Double plus ungood.
