Currently I am waiting for a SCSI terminator and an AUI transceiver to arrive. The transceiver is necessary to connect the machine to a local lan. Luckily I have found a transceiver that translates to RJ45. Most others seem to have BNC connectors.
I'm not sure yet what to do with the 3W3 graphics connector. It seems to be impossible to get a cable. Perhaps I will have to make my own cable, if possible. First, I'm gonna try to connect a terminal to use this machine.

Now cleaning the case parts. The front drive doors all look nice except for one, which has tons of scratches from someone in the past trying to remove a large label. But I assume at least one #AlphaStation will be a parts-only machine anyway. So getting four good-looking ones is sufficient. 🙂

Another piece from the #DEC lot restored today: a BA353 #StorageWorks desktop expansion unit. Left and middle slot only had blanks, now they have proper trays. The left one has a RZ26 installed, the middle one is still empty. Also had to re-cap the RRD42 CD-ROM drive due to heavy leakage.

This should help me getting any #VAXstation up and running quite fast, as I can install a ready-to-go version of VMS on the hard disk in the left bay and/or boot from install media if the VAXstation itself has no CD-ROM drive. 🙂

Great, all four cards are working perfectly. 🙂

With the AlphaStations, I also got two spare 9.1 GB hard disks. Tested them and both booted right into Windows NT 4.0 SP5. Saves me quite a bit of work. 🥳

btw, speed is phenomenal. You are on the desktop in about 30 seconds after POST is complete. And it feels very snappy.

Sorting through stuff in our garage, I found a spare keytop. Should I ever need to switch between 110 and 300 baud in the future this'll come in handy.

I own a pretty neat Amiga 3000, which is probably not cheap if I'd sell it (which I don't).

But looking at DEC AlphaStations on eBay... hooooly fuck! I should have bought one of those instead of an A3000 25 years ago. 5000 USD?!? geez

(I kinda regret not buying an Alpha back then in 2000 because they were kinda expensive)

Hat jemand Interesse an einem #AlphaServer 1000A? Der steht bei einem meiner Kontakte noch rum und könnte bei Cochem/Zell abgeholt werden. Leider sind bis auf die CPU keine Karten mehr drin, auch kein RAM und keine Festplatten. Ist aber eine gute Basis für einen Wiederaufbau.

Habe heute den "vergessenen" Rest abgeholt. Nochmal drei AlphaStations, eine weitere #MicroVAX 3100, ein fetter Server, ein paar Hubs, Tape-Laufwerke, und weitere Unibus-Karten.

Das reicht an DEC-Hardware für den Rest meines Lebens. 😂

Das nächste Gerät aus der #DEC-Sammlung steht zum Verkauf: Eine vollständig restaurierte digital VAXstation 4000 VLC

Wurde komplett zerlegt und gereinigt, RIFA aus dem Netzteil entfernt, Lüfter neu geölt (müssen sich noch einlaufen, sind noch laut), Tantal auf der 12V-Schiene erneuert.

Gehäuse hat Gilb und altersbedingt und durch Lagerung ein paar Macken.

Die VLC hat die maximal möglichen 24 MB RAM und eine 120 MB Festplatte sowie die 1 MB Farbgrafik-Karte. Kein OS installiert, darum muss sich der Käufer kümmern. 😉

Preis: 200€

Es wird nur die VAXstation verkauft, ohne irgendwelches Zubehör!
