<p>The post’s caption reads, “DepEd Announcement: <em>Walang pasok</em> (no classes) due to the Nipah virus outbreak, classes and work are suspended in selected areas as declared by local government units on Monday, February 3, 2026.”</p>

<p>The post includes alleged links to the list of areas where class suspensions have been declared, and an advisory supposedly issued by Malacañang.</p>

<p>The pages that posted this claim present themselves as news outlets, with page names such as “News Update Ph,” “Walang Pasok Advisory,” and “Philippines Weather Advisory.” The posts use similar captions and photos.</p>

<p>“<em>Dahil sa pagtaas ng kaso ng ‘super flu,’ inanunsyo ng ilang local government units (LGUs) ang suspensyon ng klase at trabaho sa piling mga lugar mula Enero 28 hanggang Enero 31, 2026</em>,” the caption says.</p>

<p><strong>MANILA,</strong> Philippines <strong>—</strong> Several lawmakers have raised red flags over the proposed P6.793-trillion national budget for 2026, warning that it remains laden with what they described as “repackaged pork barrel” funds spread across various government programs.</p>

<p>Senator Imee Marcos, a member of the Bicameral Conference Committee (Bicam), said she refused to sign the reconciled budget, citing what she called “giniling pork”, discretionary funds allegedly broken down into smaller allocations to avoid scrutiny.</p>

<p>Marcos pointed to a reported P143.8-billion increase allocated to several assistance and infrastructure programs, including the Medical Assistance for Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP), Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Displaced Workers (TUPAD), Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk and Families (PAFF), Farm-to-Market Roads (FMR), and the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).</p>

<p>“I did not sign the ‘giniling’ budget. There is still pork, it has just been chopped up to make it less noticeable,” Marcos said.</p>

<p>She added that she strongly opposed redirecting funds originally removed from flood control projects toward what she described as “soft pork” programs that have long been associated with political incentives.</p>

Over 200 people hurt due to firecrackers – DOH

<p>MANILA, Philippines – Sixty-two more people were hurt due to firecrackers as they welcomed the New Year, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Thursday, January 1.</p>

<p>This brings the total firework-related injuries to 235 from December 21, 2025 to January 1, 4 am.</p>

<p>DOH data showed 69% of the victims were aged below 20.</p>

<p>Most of the injured were hurt from firecrackers that are unknown to them as well as <em>boga</em> and 5-Star.</p>

<p>This year’s firework-related injuries is 42% lower than the 403 cases recorded in the same period last year.</p>

<p>The DOH will continue its monitoring until January 5.</p>

<p>“The DOH anticipates that late reports will come in from today [January] 1 all the way to  [January] 5. We hope the lower count will stay,” DOH spokesperson Albert Domingo said.</p>

<p>Domingo advised victims to consult with the nearest hospital, regardless of the wound size, to avoid tetanus, a bacterial disease that affects the body’s muscles and nerves.</p>

<p>“Symptoms do not appear until around 8 days, some up to 21 days later, and they can be deadly. Vaccination against tetanus is available at hospitals,” he said.</p>

<p>According to the World Health Organization, tetanus symptoms include headache and muscular stiffness in the jaw then neck, difficulty swallowing, spasms, sweating, fever, and rigidity of abdominal muscles.</p>

<p>Set a timer, even for just two to five minutes.</p>

<p>Focus on your breathing.</p>

<p>When thoughts arise, gently bring your attention back to your breath.</p>

<p>End the session with awareness, taking a deep breath, and noticing the sense of calm.</p>

<p>The call comes amid rising concerns over mental health among young Filipinos. According to AXA’s 2025 Mind Health Report, Filipinos aged 18 to 34 experience higher levels of stress and mental health challenges compared to peers globally, largely due to financial instability and job insecurity.</p>

<p>Despite this, many in this age group actively seek help.</p>

<p>The report found that seven in 10 Filipinos experience at least mild anxiety, stress, or depression, among the highest rates worldwide.</p>

<p>Globally, mental health concerns among adolescents remain critical. A World Health Organization (WHO) report released in September noted that one in seven people aged 10 to 19 suffers from a mental disorder, with depression, anxiety, and behavioral issues ranking among the leading causes of illness and disability.</p>
