Two hotels have provided dog beds. This one in Germany is quite posh and Huw looks bemused. He’s not as tired as he was in Sussex. In Sussex he’d had a morning of forest walking followed by an afternoon running around with a new friend. Today we were up at 4am to cross multiple countries but less walking.

Now we are in Germany (having travelled through France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and the Eurotunnel). Huw is a well-travelled Slovakian dog who lives in Austria and has also been to Norway and Italy (as well as Scotland and England). Joe his travel companion this time is less well travelled (so far).

Then we moved on to Sussex. Dogs had some great walks in and around Ashdown Forest. They also met my aunt’s dog who decided Huw was great and followed him around everywhere. One day we walked along Hadrian’s Wall. The cows were not always happy for us to drive back up the hill to our “Bothy”! #Dogs #DogsOfMastodon #DogsOnHoliday #cows

We left Scotland where the internet was fabulous and moved down to Northumberland where we had a lovely “Bothy” (a large one really). The location was superb. On top of a hill. Lots of great walks #Dogs #DogsOfMastodon #DogsOnHoliday

Weather getting windy here now. I absolutely love Skye.

Tomorrow we leave for Northumberland. The weather has been perfect on Skye and the dogs have walked a lot. Getting windier now as shown by view from our window.

Rain is predicted for the next leg of the trip. Might be a lazier time for all of us dogs included. Huw will be slightly disappointed but Joe will be happy! #DogsOnHoliday

Then, after lunch was walk 2. A bit longer. Closer to 2 hours. And a bit more exciting as we had to check tide times to cross the causeway to the island of Oronsay.

Two dog walks today. Dogs are exhausted but tomorrow is a travelling day so just two short leg stretches for them.

Walk 1 was a gentle one hour walk round Armadale Woodlands. Huw was often ahead and hence in the photos. Joe was lagging a bit. #Dogs #DogsOfMastodon #DogsOnHoliday

Absolutely fantastic afternoon on Skye, although without dogs this time😕 (they seemed to have enjoyed their afternoon off in our beautiful cabin). We took a boat trip on Bella Jane (the dogs could have come but we decided they needed a break). First we had to get there. On single track roads for ~20 km. Today’s morning walk was to The Old Man of Storr. Bit touristy tbh (says the tourist) but it was a nice short walk.

We are going out on a boat this afternoon so the dogs will get the afternoon off. They will be happy to sleep, particularly Joe who is less energetic and keen than Huw. A short walk for them early this evening will round off the day. #Dogs #DogsOfMastodon #DogsOnHoliday

We have moved on from Ballater to the Isle of Skye. Staying in a fabulous cabin. It is perfect. Our view is amazing. Huw however is sleeping after a good walk this morning. #Dog #DogsOfMastodon #DogsOnHoliday

Lots of walking in the Scottish Highlands today. Huw had fun off lead. This is rare for him as although he is (obviously) perfect, if he sees a moving target he can chase it. So we waited until he was quite tired and on his second longish walk if the day and there was nothing to see for miles. It was perfect! Joe plodded on behind! #DogsOfMastodon #dogs #DogsOnHoliday

Huw has been super well-behaved on our night in Amsterdam. His friend, Joe, less so. Hence I was out walking them at 04:30 this morning. 90 minutes in the pouring rain got us all drenched.
