W bitwie pod Arnhem generał Sosabowski i jego polska 1. Samodzielna Brygada Spadochronowa wykazali się brawurowymi i odważnymi działaniami. Ich ogromna zasługa w wyzwoleniu Holandii została oficjalnie doceniona dopiero niedawno. Dla wielu rehabilitacja nastąpiła już pośmiertnie, ale dla członków rodzin bohaterów jest ona równie ważna.

Polski generał został wykorzystany jako kozioł ofiarny, na którego Montgomery i Browning mogli zrzucić winę za fiasko bitwy o Arnhem. Dopiero mieszkańcy Driel dostrzegli tragizm walki polskich żołnierzy, którzy ponieśli ciężkie straty w wyniku niesprzyjających okoliczności i złego planowania brytyjskiego naczelnego dowództwa. Postrzegają polskich żołnierzy jako swoich wyzwolicieli, z generałem Stanisławem Sosabowskim na czele.
