#DumbPets

George, our very large, friendly, and dumb house rabbit, just proved his mettle in a way I haven't seen before.

I knelt down to give him a treat, but directly between him and me was his water bowl. He got as far as the bowl, and stopped dead - looking down and then at me. He eventually managed to stretch a front paw all the way across the bowl to plant it on the side nearest me, and then lumbered across (he's too big to do much jumping). I seriously thought he was going to put a paw right in the bowl.

He literally couldn't figure out how to go around the bowl, on either side. 😆

George, in a box-burrow in my office some years ago. This was before he got too lazy, and liked to keep an eye on me while I worked.

Oddly, he appears to be at 8:05 rather than his usual 7:05. Back in the day, he must have observed George Daylight Time, but these days he's always in George Standard Time.

I have in the past mentioned how George is Not Smart. Occasionally I'll get a response complaining about this. And I have to say, maybe they're right and I'm too quick to judge. After all, George can correctly identify which of the two humans has called him to come get a snack in only two tries almost half the time.

George, a very large greyish-brown house rabbit, lies sticking out of a cardboard box under a desk, on the carpet. His back half remains in the box, while his head, front feet, and part of his upper body are out in the light. He has one lop ear to camera-left pointing at 8-o-clock, and one erect ear to camera-right pointing to 1-o-clock, giving a time of 8:05.

He is looking directly into the camera, which is at floor level. His front feet are crossed, sticking out in front of him.

@RainCityBunnies @Satori

Like many pets, dumb bunnies are frequently the sweetest ones.

That's why I love George so much.

@Satori Every bunny of ours has been extremely judgmental, disapproving of virtually everything, especially anything related to the hu-mans.

Except George. He's too dumb to disapprove of anything. 😀

@athelas1001 This is a nice counterpoint to #DumbPets things I posted.

I remember reading years ago a long-time zoo employee talked about the escape artists. Along with the ones you might expect - primates, elephants - he specifically mentioned horses as being very, very good at letting themselves out of any enclosure. I was dumbfounded - the only real fine manipulators they have are their lips and tongue!

I would be fascinated to hear any stories you might share.

More: George & Gracie's living space can be entered from two different sides. If I go to one of them and talk to him (who doesn't talk to their rabbits?), then go through the house to the other side and continue talking from there, he thinks I've become invisible and keeps looking for me in the first spot.

George will also come running for food/treats, fail to stop, and run right into the fence. He doesn't learn; he's been doing it for years.

@impossibleblue boosted a post where I mentioned George was dumb and that I'd have more to say later. I never did, so here goes.

George gets very excited when the food bowl comes. Sometimes he will "binky" straight up in the air. If he lands facing a different direction, you can visibly see him being confused that the food disappeared.

He doesn't go in the hidey-hole boxes and such as much as Gracie does, because sometimes he can't figure out how to get out.

George, a large, dark-brown rabbit with erect ears, is examining his new living space after moving to a new home. He is alert and checking for danger - and where the food is.
