Not in Order: Madison, a faceless Gastby, and stationery.
Some things I liked recently, not in any particular order.
- A trip to Madison, WI.
Pablo lost one of his night contact lenses and we drove to Madison to bring him the spare ones.
After a week of -20°C (-4F) it was 3°C and sunny, lots of people outside running (we saw a few wearing shorts), and the frozen lake was really beautiful.
We had lunch at the Mediterranean café. There were pictures from Algeria and Pass the Dutchie playing. Students were working the counter. The food was correct, not expensive. I liked the place, it felt authentic.
- The Great Gastby
I read The Great Gatsby and listened to the lectures from The Open Yale courses.
Professor Wai Chee Dimock explains how vague the physical description of Gastby is in the book and how the movies have influenced our perception of Gastby. I would rather have a faceless Gatsby than a Gatsby with the face of Leonardo DiCaprio. Too late for that.
I really enjoyed reading the book and listening to the lectures.

- Stationery from Paper Treats Shop and Field Notes notebooks
I like to send letters to my friends. Paper Treats shop has postcards and letter sets from Japan. I have no idea how she makes money from the shop because she always adds extras to the packages. Sometimes, I send a Field Notes notebook with my letters. They are made in Chicago, and each collection has a story.
There were also many things I didn’t like recently. These little things always help.

It somehow looks more like an Edward Hopper painting than it resembles the Chester Gould comic.
