Not a real #FASoS town hall meeting --- but still a topic related to real-world challenges in Dutch #highereducation: Students of our BA #DigitalSociety at Maastricht University presented an academic role-play on cryptocurrency donations as a means to back up university finances this morning and also created an invitation poster that participants could use to take notes.

At the #RMeS Winterschool at #FASoS we are also brainstorming #AI applications that could make society or academia more inclusive. My group came up with a citation checker that flags potential biases in reference lists. We would make the underlying model as small and eco-friendly as possible -- relying on existing #NLP algorithms where possible. The question if AI can help us question our positions has been a recurring theme of our discussions. Looking forward to the next paper presentations!

In the first keynote of our #ResearchInfrastructures #conference at #FASoS #Maastricht, Laura Mandell, Professor of English at Texas A&M University, considers the role of (new) public intellectuals in the era of digitised research. Infrastructural constraints are often the main hindrance to technologically advanced, cross-institutional and truly international research projects. Hopefully our meeting can, on a small scale, contribute to changing that for good!

Axel & I have just taught this year's first #skills sessions in #MachinesOfKnowledge. Thanks to the amazing support by Arnoud Wils & our digital studies lab The Plant 🪴, the #infrastructure is up & running. Our students are now able to scrape podcast reviews with #Python. #FASoS

Ik zou graag inclusieve meertaligheid zien in plaats van een Nederlands versus Engels conflict.Vandaag ben ik in #Zwitserland waar het Landesmuseum in #Zürich de Zwitserse talen veelheid met de eigen expositie "Sprachenland Schweiz" ("Talenland Zwitserland") waardeert. 😇 Het is fijn dat mensen trots zijn op diversiteit binnen hun eigen grenzen.
