Ben E King. Supernatural Thing

This great later Ben E King track is a great bit of funkiness. Having worked wit the Average White Band, his sense of the groove was clearly influenced by the Scottish funksters (their sound is recreated here by US session musicians). Its a burbling guitar led groovy shuffle that drives forward with a hypnotic rhythm, backing Kings great vocals. Great stuff.

As we approach half way in the Funky 50 its time for the second track from the Godfather of Soul. This is a classic long form funky groove from one Brown's 70's double LPs (leaving lots of room for long grooves). This is a lovely bit of funk, with as you'd expect, a great horn section backed by a classic JBs rhythm & guitar riffing. Just relax into it & let it take over for 10 mins!
