Dorothea Lange (@DorotheaLange)

Baby from Mississippi parked in truck at FSA (Farm Security Administration) camp, Merrill, Oregon. See general caption 62

The image appears to be an old photograph, likely from the mid-20th century given the style of the vehicle and clothing. It features a young child seated in the bed of a small truck with the hood open. The child is dressed in a light-colored outfit and seems to be observing something outside the frame. The truck itself has an old-fashioned design, and there's a curtain hanging at one window. The setting looks like it might be a rural or semi-rural area due to the presence of farmland in the background, which is consistent with the FSA (Farm Security Administration) context suggested by the caption. There are no visible texts on the image that provide further information about the location, event, or subjects beyond what has been described.

This image portrays a serene, rustic setting captured in a black and white filter, emphasizing the timeless allure of the scene. A dirt road, meandering towards the horizon, is flanked by sparse vegetation, leading the observer's eye towards houses that dot the distant landscape. Above, a vast sky blankets the entire scene, its textures possibly hinting at the quiet before a storm or the calm of an early morning. The ground, detailed with the rugged texture of the dirt road, contrasts with the smooth, ethereal sky, creating a harmonious balance between earth and sky.

Farmers in Granville County, North Carolina

The Farm Security Administration (FSA) was designed to assist people in rural areas as they worked to get out of debt, revitalize their farms, and get back on their feet after the Great Depression. Several photographers were hired to create a visual record of the changes in the lives of the struggling farmers.

The photos featured here are among those taken by Dorothea Lange in 1939

"Back in #Oklahoma, we are sinking. You work your head off for a crop and then see it burn up. You live in debts that you can never get out of. This isn't a good life, but I say that it's a better life than it was."

A monochrome image captures a tender moment between a young woman and a boy. The woman, approximately 26 years old, sits comfortably on a table, dressed in light clothes. She exudes an aura of youth and femininity. Beside her, a 7-year-old boy stands, his curious face turned towards her. In the middle of them, a bucket rests, lending a touch of domesticity to the scene. The indoor setting is emphasized by the presence of a wall in the background. Their casual attire and familiar interaction suggest a moment of shared household chores or a playful break.
