Summer is a good time for kids to learn new things.

So my 15yo & I sat down and watched a 1967 #FiringLine in which #WilliamFBuckleyJr and #RobertVaughn debated American involvement in the Vietnam War.

We paused periodically for questions and discussion. This clip was the highlight that got me up on my feet clapping.

Richard Dreyfuss on new Oscars diversity rules: 'They make me vomit' - CNN

It sounds bad. Read the thing. It's actually worse.
Like, damn, dude. You know we live in the real world, right? Where perception has consequences and where the majority works very deligently to erase minorities?
This mother fucker lamenting that he'll never get to play "Othello".
What? It's in there.

I can hardly believe this is real and not parody.

Well, the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei said last year on #PBS #FiringLine that most Americans already live in an oppressive authoritarian surveillance state. We just are not able to acknowledge it openly and honestly.

@FiringLineShow RT by @aiww: This week, #FiringLine reairs one of our favorite episodes. Our guest is an artist and activist who was imprisoned for standing up to a repressive regime in #China, and sees dangers of authoritarianism rising in the U.S. #GuesstheGuest nitter.hongkongers.net/FiringL

I've posted a couple videos today of Allen Ginsberg reading his own poems. Below is a remarkable hour of US television & an amazing time-capsule that also has universal appeal. It's Ginsberg on Firing Line debating with Bill Buckley. It was recorded on May 7, 1968—a heady time in world politics & social rebellion. Ginsberg, as expected, was fascinating & charismatic.

Fascinating to hear William Buckley and & Tyrell Emmett Jr talk about the women's movement, not as "the" women's movement but "A" women's movement.

...very much like conservatives today talk about #BLM.
