Making Sense of WP Templates
And A Personal Note.
One of the most misunderstood aspects of working with WordPress is the important role that templates play.
Often confused and mistaken for a theme, knowing what templates are, how they are used in every WordPress site, and how they can be customized will give you a significant advantage when developing, growing, and managing a WordPress site.
Making sense of WordPress templates – GoDaddy Blog
Hat-tip to Gutenberg Times
What I loved about this very sensible article is its easily digestible, plain-speak explanations.
For me the key takeaway was:
The other type of theme – the Classic Theme – uses blocks only when creating a Page or Post.
In Classic Themes there is a clear differentiation between templates and content.
And this is a big hangup for a lot of people when using Site Editor themes. In one iteration of the Site Editor, the UI between editing templates in the Site Editor and editing site content were separate. Then those functions started to overlap causing confused site owners to post in the community forums when the same content appeared on new pages or posts they added to their site.
Hopefully the GoDaddy blog post will help explain.
A Personal Note
The past year has been more than a difficult one for me. The continuing hostilities that started with 1200 Israelis being butchered on 7 October 2023, the increasing overt antisemitism and intolerance in the world, the shocking silence of the public, let alone “friends,” in the face of that, the rise of anti-democratic governments have all had an impact on me.
Then came unexpected health issues that forced me to ask myself what is truly important in my life. Maintaining this blog is not one of the important things.
While I am not shuttering this site, as some posts remain very active, I won’t be adding anything new or updating here for the foreseeable future. Thanks for being with me until now.
May 2025 be a better year for us all.
If you remain silent and do nothing in the face of discrimination and intolerance, you are complicit in their growth.
