My guinea pig named Coffeecake is completely asleep, splooted on his side like a dead piggy in his little hidey corner; however, his eyes are frozen open in terror as if he were wide awake.

The top layer of the bedding is grey square fleece bedding, and the second, softer layer (which he has pulled out and laid on top of) is yellow on the visible underside.

It is normal for guinea pigs to sleep with their eyes open so they can keep a look out for predators. This is also typical of Coffeecake since he is the one I like to pick up and cuddle with, and many terrifying vet visits have conditioned him to fear The Claw. He also is not the dominant piggy in his cage despite his best efforts, and he gets bullied a ton by Oreo. In short, there's lots of reasons for him to sleep with his eyes open.

Little bastard keeps tunneling under the MULTIPLE LAYERS of blankets.

I put those there for you to poop on, not to tunnel under!

Two pets with similar poses: Inca the Rottie on the ground, M. the guinea pig on the towel. Inca met the pigs late in life and she has been very good around them so far. However, we had a squirrel get in the house (long story), she wanted to eat the squirrel, and helped with its capture.

I simply love guinea pigs a lot. They're full of personality and love exploring a big space. I saw mine exploring the living room. I was playing a video game and then it just clicked.

[EVERYONE IS OK]

I just arrived home from running some errands, and opened the front door to find a significant amount of blood spattered in the hallway and loungeroom, all over the curtain and front window, and floors. There were dog foot prints through it all.

My first thought was that Poppy had gotten the cat.. they have a tentative truce, largely because Poppy is terrified of Lilith (who is tiny, but her name absolutely fucking fits!) and usually freezes, stares, and trembles if she catches sight of Lily. So I threw the dogs outside, grabbed the flashlight and started looking everywhere for Lilith.. to finally find her sitting in the cat hide on my housemate's desk, half asleep and judgingly watching whatever nonsense I was up to.

The guinea pig is fine, and completely unreachable.

Both dogs seem totally OK.. not nicks, scratches, marks. No blood anywhere on their bodies or fur. I guess they could have tussled and one of them might have a bit tongue or lip that I can't see bleeding.. but their mannerisms around each other are completely normal as well, which is the weird part. When they've had a bit of a scuffle in the past (they've only been together 6 months, and they're both rescue dogs with the trauma associated with that), they've been stand-offish with each other for a couple of days afterwards.

I have no idea what's going on. And honestly, I'm wondering if someone got into the house and was chased out after being bitten.. because that seems more likely than anything else at the moment.
