Going to put this out there because there are too many people repeating the "politically correct" stuff:
#Taiwan is not a country, the #OneChinaPolicy makes that clear, and they never went through the process to become one. #Ukraine is a country, and they deserve our protection because after the Cold War, we promised them protection from Russia, in return for them closing down their nuclear program. #Palestine / #Gaza is not a country, but they are a territory and deserve to be free from #Israel 's terrorism.
This is the one people don't get:
Taiwan: the #Guomindang lost the Chinese Civil War. They fled to Taiwan and the #ROC claimed they were the rightful leaders over all of #China until 1991. Now they want to be a separate country, when they never established themselves as such? Could you imagine if the Confederates tried to claim they were the rightful leaders of the US despite losing? No one would take them seriously.
Taiwan is off the coast of mainland China. What, are we going to indefinitely provide support for Taiwan? From halfway across the world? Until #Beijing finally gives up? News flash: they're not going to give up. China holds grudges against #Japan for the many war crimes Japan committed almost a century ago.
Taiwan needs to establish diplomatic ties with Beijing and figure it out themselves.
