We had a great time and are travelling home with lots of useful information and new ideas.

A day later and still inspired by #HMC_CON2025!
Day 3 wrapped up with sessions on Human Actors, FAIR Metrics & Metadata Management – showing again: good metadata needs both people and tech.
Big thanks to all speakers & participants for 3 days full of insights, tools & connection.

Against the background of recent shutdowns of many research data services in the US @kuf bemoans in his #hmc_con2025 keynote that services are often not open sourced.
In order to make it easier for others to pick up on the provision of a service in case it is shut down, he suggests running all as infrastructure as code by providing the service code, data and e.g. Ansible scripts for the server configuration.
🎤 We’re closing #HMC_CON2025 with a keynote from Konrad Förstner, (@kuf) joint professor for Data and Information Literacy at @ZBMED and @th_koeln.
As a champion of open science and metadata literacy, Konrad brings deep insight from research, teaching, and community work – including @thecarpentries and @NFDI4Microbiota

Interesting case of research data management software, LinkAhead, being presented by Florian Spreckelsen at #hmc_con2025 : https://getlinkahead.com/ Originally developed at Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, it is published as FOSS under AGPL and @indiscale GmbH provides professional support.
I got the feeling that there are not as many librarians at #hmc_con2025 as I had expected for it being a conference focused solely on research metadata. @helmholtz_hmc , do you have some statistics on the background/roles of conference participants?
Or does anybody know about some published numbers on the general involvement of libraries/librarians in research data management initatives?
I had to skip day 2 of Helmholts Metadata Collaboration Conference but am now back for day 3. There already was an interesting talk by two fellow librarians about data accessibility statements (DAS), how the lack of standardized, machine-readable DAS in publications hinders findability and automatic analysis of published datasets and what they did about this at bris.data. #hmc_con2025

At #HMC_con2025, Emanuel Söding presented the results of the 1st NFDI Metadata Workshop: All 26 NFDI consortia participated and agreed to
1. promote the three cross-disciplinary standards: #DCAT, #DataCite Metadata Schema, #schemaorg
2. work towards an NFDI core metadata profile that identifies mandatory fields of these three
3. recommend registration and at least annual curation in #re3data

What a day at #HMC_CON2025! From inspiring sessions on mapping, metadata annotation, and technical solutions to discussions on semantics and infrastructure – today’s program showed how active and creative the metadata community really is.
Now we’re looking forward to rounding off the day with a boat ride on the Rhine. A perfect way to end an exciting second day!
