Today's #Hammondal shame: pondering subtly comical graphs.
Today's #Hammondal shame: pondering subtly comical graphs.
Truly one of the _hokiest_ parts of fantasy #worldbuilding is fake-ass names for the days of the week that are close enough to OUR days of the week that they're easy to remember.
I had believed, for a long time, that I would simply skip this with #Hammondal and use the regular names without comment or explanation.
But they "hokey bug" has poked me.
I may turn myself around on this, but first, I must engage with this hokey pokey, and put my best foot forward.
In bed early (for me), staring into the darkness. I need to get up early Sunday so I'm trying to adjust rapidly.
So naturally, instead of sleeping, I'm doing bits of #AdventureDesign in my head.
Ending up with a twisty dark comedy about a bequeathed property. Could make a nice addition to a library of shorties I've been piling up for #Hammondal - there's an orphanage, a gang, a guild, and an order of shady sorcerers tangled up in it.
I think #Hammondal is the kind of RPG that probably deserves it's own little newsletter in the classic mold.
By which I mean the newsletter will die after 7 or 8 issues but always be fondly remembered by the OG fans.
(I know it sounds like I'm half joking but I'm already writing the Issue 8 farewell editorial in my head).
One question I think I've been asked only once (so it's definitely not a "FAQ") is how much overtly queer stuff there is in #Hammondal.
The best answer I can think of is: if you dislike queer stuff, there's WAY too much, and if you live for queer stuff, there's _probably_ too little.
So, it's very-very "S. John." 🤷😅

My Hammondal Pride graphic is the only thing I have handy and I just woke up but Happy Pride Month!
I haven't used the patterns created by crisping one of my burritoids* in a pan to texture a fantasy map yet, but I clearly need to at some point.
Each of the #Hammondal neighborhood maps will have slightly different texturing, so I'll soon have the opportunity.
_____
* My recipe is not what you'd call authentic. 😅
Just playing with subtle changes to how I tone and texture the water.
(Plates like this one are the most that fit on a single page, so there will be three such plates in Hammondal's book, plus up to 23 neighborhood maps, zoomed and text-encrusted, plus a few others)
Many fantasy cities have been presented as campaign worlds, but they're usually _big deal_ cities, fantasy equivalents of New York, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, London, Cairo.
#Hammondal is a campaign world that's the fantasy equivalent of Livonia, Michigan or Parma, Ohio. Cities for which most people never spare a single thought.
And if that strikes you as intriguing, or even a little audacious ... I agree. 😆
