04-Feb : Most memorable sidekick?
I think a sidekick is someone who is by your side supporting you, even if you don't want or like it.
Of the 2024 dramas, I thought Nam Ja Yeon (Han Ji Hyun) in "No Gain, No Love" was a great sidekick for Son Hae Yeong (Shin Min Ah). She provided a family, a voice of reason, & made Son Hae Yeong realize things about her life. And she had her own great story line too.
This #kdrama completes my 2024 #HanJiHyun quest.
The plot was quite good, however the police detective often comes second to the doctor in finding investigation clues. And she shares a bit too much with him. The Übermensch trope is a bit annoying.

Cheer Up
(2022 - Viki 16 1:10 eps)
Yeonhee University's cheer squad has a long history, including a terrifying prophecy. A poor woman concerned only about supporting her family & paying tuition is persuaded to join the cheer squad for money. She realizes there is value in doing things you enjoy & having relationships. Other members of the cheer squad also find value in belonging & having others cheer you on.
Interesting look at an unfamiliar (to the U.S.) part of Korean campus life. The love triangle is intense (big-time 2nd ML syndrome) & really becomes the story, making the message take 2nd place. The criminal's motives are mostly glossed over & the crime-ing was very uneven, but since it wasn't central to the story, it's okay. Not a lot of character development, but it did try to present a good message. Some great acting saved the show & made for a very fun watch.

Spice Up Our Love
(2024 - Prime 2 0:50 eps)
The adult web novel writer from "No Gain, No Love" is transported into her own work. Once inside, she realizes the guy she imagined as the lead is not her 1st love, but the chaebol who wrote hate comments on her story IRL. While trying to figure out why, there are a lot ridiculous happenings. Some sexy scenes you thought you might see are hilariously avoided. Nothing like the original series - designed to be campy & cartoony, the leads pull it off well.
It seems this "transport" takes place in the original story just as she's realizing things about her 1st love & the CEO IRL. It does help push the narrative just a bit about why her feelings change - but it's not tied closely to the original. 2 episodes were a good length for some fun - it is not serious in any way & cannot & should not be compared to "No Gain." It's just a silly bonus!

A person who calculates returns on every decision, the FL doesn't want to miss out on benefits her company offers to married workers. She recruits the kind-hearted, neighborhood convenience store worker to enter a fake marriage.
The FL is a person who initially isn't very likable - no one seems to measure up to her standards. While there is character growth for all, the FL doesn't change her personality, but our understanding of her changes, making this story so beautiful.
Powerful female roles & men with multiple dimensions make characters that stay with us. Both lead couples, & even the bromance have great chemistry. Outstanding writing with phenomenal acting & the comedy is some of the best ever - from very small wordplay to full-on slapstick, it has it all.
