#HardLessons

I shared something personal and meaningful with someone I considered a friend, and their immediate reaction was to accuse me of sending a malware. There was no attempt to understand, no curiosity—just suspicion and rejection. That kind of response, especially when you're being vulnerable, really hurts.

When there's no trust, there's no foundation for friendship. Being treated like a threat when you’re just trying to connect is painful. It leaves a lasting impression, and it's hard to see a path forward in any relationship where you're not seen or respected.

Hello, I read this on Facebook and wanted to share as it hit home for me
“This is the hard lesson I learned this year:
No matter how strong the bond feels, no matter how long you’ve known each other, no matter how many battles you fought side by side, and no matter how much love you believed was there—people’s hearts can change in the blink of an eye.

It’s a tough pill to swallow, realizing that loyalty isn’t always reciprocated, and promises aren’t always forever. The memories you built together, the laughter, the tears, the silent understanding—everything you held sacred—can be shattered in a single moment of change.

The hardest part isn’t even the loss itself; it’s the confusion. How can someone who once cared so deeply suddenly grow cold? How can someone you trusted to stay become the very person to leave? It’s a feeling that leaves you questioning not just them, but yourself. Did I miss the signs? Was I not enough? Was it all an illusion?

But here’s what I’ve come to understand:
Change is inevitable. People grow, priorities shift, and sometimes, no matter how much we fight to hold on, they drift away. It doesn’t always mean we did something wrong. It doesn’t make the love you shared any less real. It simply means their chapter in your story has ended, even if you weren’t ready to turn the page.

And while it’s painful—while it breaks you into pieces—it also teaches you strength. You learn to love without expectations, to cherish moments for what they are, and to accept that not all bonds are meant to last forever.

In the end, the people who are meant to stay will stay. They will fight for you as you fight for them. They will choose you, over and over again, without hesitation.

So let those who choose to leave, leave. Their departure doesn’t define your worth. Their changing heart doesn’t mean yours wasn’t enough.

Because even when the bond breaks, your ability to love remains intact—and that is where your true strength lies.”

Needed to meet w/ the community in person in order to fully realize that, not only is Facebook is the worst place to do online organizing (incentivizes distraction and conflict, buries information), but I'm part of the problem. I will start behaving differently in this community's online space until I can successfully advocate for an alternative. #organizing #localPolitics #hardLessons #grossePointeSchoolBoard

On one hand, it's said those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it - on the other hand, perhaps repeating a lesson a few times makes the education more indelibly imprinted on the collective memories of our species. If we learned it the first time it was too easy, and the best things are rarely easy. Then again, maybe if we were smarter we'd learn it the first time and move on to something more challenging.
