Here's one of the things I do to battle the heat. I tape reflective foil on one side of a cardboard panel, and patterned adhesive plastic on the other. I use the panels to cover my windows on the sunny side. The foil is a cheap 1st aid reflective blanket - it won't accumulate heat the way alu foil would. The plastic reinforces the panel, fastens the foil, and makes the thing look nicer. The latter is important since you'll stare at these things for several days.
