LCG secures final approval for Coulee Ile des Cannes ponds
Mayor-President Monique Boulet’s administration is one step closer to rectifying a $22 million hole in Lafayette’s finances, created by a reimbursement still withheld by the state until LCG completes the Bayou Vermilion Flood Control project.
In a release Friday morning, LCG announced final approval from the state to complete the detention ponds at Coulee Ile des Cannes, a site that has lain dormant for two years.
CIDC is half of the overall flood control project, and is made up of four unconnected detention ponds located by Duhon Road.

According to LCG, the remaining work of connecting the ponds to the coulee will cost $984,000 and will be completed by Rigid Constructors, the original contractors for the project, now under new ownership.
Boulet has previously acknowledged that receiving the remaining reimbursements from the state, withheld from the previous administration due to a lack of permits, is a motivation for completing CIDC and the additional detention ponds at Homewood.
LCG already received $6 million in reimbursements from the state earlier this year after completing the necessary permits the administration of former M-P Josh Guillory failed to obtain. The administration estimates that work on Homewood, a more expensive endeavor, will go out for bid in the second half of 2026.
This leaves the completion of those retention ponds as the final piece in securing the full $22 million reimbursement.
