We're adding a loop through Bohemian Switzerland because it is particularly charming on this snow white day
The Dolni Poustevna-Sebnitz connection was reopened in 2014 after a post-war hiatus of almost 70 years, so it's quite special to be able to do this as a loop: Decin - Kamenice - Rumburk - Sebnitz - Decin
And that's a wrap! Arrived in Gdańsk after 26h instead of the planned 24h. This isn't as fast as the more direct route via Berlin* but I wanted to try it as a long stretch in the night train with shorter day trains before/after can be more relaxing. The hourly service Warsaw-Gdańsk is also good to amortize delays as I experienced, even though 2nd class tickets sell out. #Interrail
*Doable in 14h30 if 6am - 8:30pm is your thing, otherwise the night train Zurich-Berlin is the preferred option.
Finished entering my July 2004 #Interrail on https://viaduct.world . This trip* I did with my son who was 13 at the time.
Unlike my other Interrail trips, for this one we used a flight for one leg: We started by flying from Helsinki to the Köln-Bonn Airport. When going back home we did use surface transport, though.
Some of the train lines we used in France no longer have passenger traffic, so I was not able to enter all journeys* accurately. Meaning, the line between Clermont-Ferrand and Ussel with a branch to Mont-Dore. But I think viaduct.world allows you to enter a journey as a sequence of geographic points instead of a sequence of stations, so maybe I'll do that if I feel anal-retentive enough. (Haha, you can bet I now take it as a challenge and will do it.)
There might be other inaccuracies, too. For instance, it might be that in Sweden the København–Stockholm train back then ran via Nyköping and not via Katrineholm and Flen. Will have to check my Cook's for June 2004, to see if it has information about that. And yes, I do want to get such details as correct as possible.
We did spend lots of nights at hotels but it is fun how I almost don't remember anything about those hotels at all. For instance, I was a bit surprised to notice that we spent several nights in Paris, but I can't recall where.
Some interesting things we visited during the trip were the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, the National Museum of Computing in Bletchley Park, and Aigulle du Midi in Chamonix.
*) Here I use the Interrail terminology where a "trip" consists of a sequence of "journeys". Sadly, viaduct.world uses the opposite terminology.

Change of plans, hence change of itinerary.
I arrived in Hamburg with 39°C of fever on the night of the 26th. I spent two days in bed, tenderly fed and cared for by @sirodoht.
Miraculously, I managed to get back on my feet, mask up, and still enjoy the last 1.5 days of #39C3, that were just ✨✨✨
Now, instead of going to Berlin and spend New Year’s + a few days cuddling with @dario, I decided to get straight back to Rotterdam, where I will be resting and introspecting. I want to be fully charged and physically and mentally ready to get back to class on Jan 5 🌻

And the #interrail continues, I lost my wallet in Leipzig Hbf and need to return, the wallet's gps marker hasn't moved in the week i have been fretting about it in Prague, if in the case I don't find it, I'll still need to head to the polizei to report it missing anyway and thus have a letter saying i've lost the card that contains my residency visa.
I'll be on the 03:14 Budapest to Berlin ÖBB sleeper between Prague and Dresden in a open seating compartment, the unstated thing sleeper trains give people is the ability to take weird routes even if you don't want to sleep. And then after that train, the 06:11 ICE to Leipzig that arrives at 07:20. I am going to be really tired but this means i'll be able to get back to prague same day. The other reason to do this is I'll be able to talk to the polizei without having my bags with me.

In these few days I got a short but good impression of these heavy-industry areas of Česko and Slovensko, definitely very interesting and intriguing for future hiking holidays in the nearby mountains.
Travelling was easy and comfortable, can't complain at all, even after the initial Interrail scare.
