🔧 "Smart" dishwashers that are actually dumb. Connected fridges that spy on you. IoT washing machines that break when the wifi goes down.
When did we decide that EVERY appliance needed an app, data collection, and planned obsolescence through software updates?
Sometimes "dumb" appliances that just... work... are the smartest choice.

Volkswagen’s app leaked internal credentials in plain text—allowing hackers to unlock, track, or even start cars remotely. Your ride just became a rolling data breach. Who’s really in the driver’s seat? #Cybersecurity #IoTFail #HackedOnWheels

True Internet of Shit moment, Updated the firmware for my Ecoflow River 2 (portable power station) and its now ruined. Yeah connectivity is great for automation but when the manufacturer can't write reliable software then it's best to stick with dumb products.

I bought a humidifier, a Levoit LV500S. The thing has WiFi connectivity, which obviously only works if you install their own shit app. So, I got it from the Play Store (it's called VeSync), installed it, paired with the device, and right after setting the WiFi password, it complains that it doesn't manage to connect to their cloud service and then tells me that the way to fix this is TO CHANGE MY ROUTER'S DNS TO 8.8.8.8. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? #internetofshit #levoit #iotfail

I tried setting the network password on a digital picture frame. It gave me one of those on-screen keyboards, and when I hit the spacebar, it put the literal word "space" in the password. 🙄
