The United States calls itself a democracy. But after yet another court decision stripping rights from transgender youth, we must ask: democracy for whom? Freedom cannot be selective. Rights cannot be rationed. And justice that excludes the vulnerable is not justice at all. If American democracy is to mean anything, it must serve everyone, not just the powerful, the privileged, or the palatable.
