A brief #history of the numeric #keypad
https://www.doc.cc/articles/a-brief-history-of-the-numeric-keypad
Interesting, how the two types of numpads developed independently and why Google/Apple stick to a particular one.
The KiiBoom Cybrix 16 is a very cool looking Keypad with some impressive versatility, if you can get it to work.

Cybrix 16 Keypad: Features, Setup & Honest Review
Disclaimer
KiiBoom sent me the Cybrix16 Keypad for free to review for my blog. While I am very grateful for the opportunity, I won’t let it sway my opinions. This will be my honest review. Make sure to also check out my reviews for the KiiBoom Phantom98, the Moonshadow V2, and the Breeze 75 if you’re looking for a full-sized keyboard.

Features
The Cybrix 16 is versatile keypad ready to upgrade your productivity. The keypad comes with 16 fully programmable keys and 3 rotary knobs ready to take on any workflow. The keypad is QMK/VIA compatible, and users can save up to 5 profiles to maximize the versatility. The keypad supports 3-pin and 5-pin switches for some added customization.
The Cybrix keypad has a clean and elegant design and comes in three colors: Silver, Pink, and Black.
I chose the silver, but all colors are great. The blank gradient keys give it its futuristic minimalist aesthetic. The keypad is wired only, but it more than makes up for it with its highspeed performance. It also features a soft and subtle RGB effect for a bit of added flare.

Review
Out of the box, the keypad has an undeniable elegance that will go unmatched by anything on the market. The build and construction is clean, and I am a huge fan of the minimilistic aesthetic. It did take some time to remember what each key did, but it is not a huge deal. The customization is nice, when I finally got it to work and I wasn’t able to repeat the process. It isn’t very user friendly, and that is going to be a problem for the folks who aren’t enthusiast or a tech savvy.
That said, it is a solid keypad. The volume and media controls are always appreciated, and access to a keypad always upgrades my workflow. I wish it were wireless because my desk gets cluttered quickly, but it is nice to not have to worry about losing charge during an important project.
If you’re looking for a keypad that will upgrade your aesthetic, and you don’t mind a bit of tinkering to take full advantage of its features, the Cybrix 16 is a fantastic addition to your setup. It is not impossible, but it definitely not plug and play. If you’re only getting this to use it as a Numpad, you’re paying for the aesthetic and a few features you’ll eventually get to. The Cybrix16 is a solid peripheral, if you’re getting the most out of it.
You can pick up the Cybrix 16 on the official KiiBoom site.

@kobilacroix @katja I use a #ThinkPad-style #Trackpoint integrated in the 65% #Keyboard but since #Lenovo #enshittified that, #TEX is selling good alternatives...
And yes, I'm mad the KU-1255 was discontinued for a 3x expensive version just so Lenovo doesn't have to offer a wired version and a bluetooth version.
If you can, try a trackpoint espechally when you're more typing than mousing...
Any ideas, why my #USB #Keypad doesn't work with my #Raspberry running #Bookworm ? I have to unplug it and replug it again, then it works as expected.
Got my hands again on a #cellphone that I regularly used years ago, where the original #keypad stopped working and I replaced it with tactile mini switches and attached the replacemend keypad with silicone to the device. Was durable, and still works :-).
Phone is still used irregularly.
A modern competitor to #OperaMini with:
Why?
OFC since #Opera #Mini needs a trustworthy proxy backend any "#clone" would need an #OpenSource'd & #SelfHosting-capable #backend (similar to @ActionRetro 's #FrogFind .com as it breaks #E2EE.
Needless to say it would be a godsent for anyone stuck on #EDGEland and slower speeds (i.e. #SATCOM like #Iridium)...
Looking for a robust Zigbee keypad that can be used with HomeAssistant. Needs good battery life and solid operation. Apart from the numeric keys it should of course have buttons for "arm" and "disarm". So nothing fancy.
I'm thinking an accessory #keypad like this might be good for #FFXIV? I can put it to the left of my #keyboard and use the arrow keys to move, and the 9 keys above it for hotbar actions.
Having physical separation would make it easier to find the movement keys, instead of hunting for WASD.
Plus I can map at least some of the numeric keys for hitting with my left thumb.
I’ve had an Adafruit Macropad for a little over 3 years, and while I was working from home at the start of that period it was permanently on, connected to my MacBook Pro on my desktop, with a variety of shortcuts configured for driving different apps that I used day-to-day. My configuration is on GitHub.
More recently, I have not been using it nearly as much.
Last weekend for our Makeroni meetup, I pulled it out of my kit bag and started to tinker some more. I have a variety of additional Qwiic / StemmaQT controls and sensors that I wanted to play with, so I updated to the most recent stable build of CircuitPython and started to have a look at them.
I also noticed that it is a nice size to act as a companion device to the MNT Pocket Reform…
MNT Pocket Reform with the Macropad to one sideMacropad with a slider control attachedI noticed a problem – there was some burn-in on the OLED display where it had been mostly always-on in the past (lesson learned, to manage the screen output more carefully!) – but fortunately, Adafruit have done a lovely job of making that easy to replace. I also think it might be nice to have that screen wedged up at a slight angle to aid readability.

I don’t have an identical colour of filament, but I do have a range of options. I also ordered a bunch of different knobs for the potentiometer, and some alternate keycaps, so that I can make the look a bit more consistent as well.
A selection of filament colour optionsA close (?) matchSome rotation knob options and keycapsI don’t have a final case design yet (and I need to spend some time properly learning FreeCAD and/or Fusion360, really), and I also haven’t finished modifying the macros code to match what I’m using on Debian on the Pocket Reform, but this is just some work-in-progress.

Re #Blackberry:
There are a few pieces of tech I've truly loved, and the Blackberry was one of them.
The key feature is the manual #keypad -- I have tremours and on-screen #keyboards can be very challenging to use. Speech-to-text introduces its own level of errors that make it not always a great alternate.
While I've enjoyed the breadth of apps on #iOS, I definitely preferred my Blackberry for physical #accessibility

Checked out #Goolgle Dialer on #Playstore to use on a #Blind #ElderlyRelative's #Android phone.
Looked ok-ish.
No mention of ads.
Option to have #Keypad as start screen.
Install.
Then find that the little sh[[s at Google are showing full screen ads on dialer startup.
Yay guys, way to really fu[[-up #Accessability , you gruby P[[.
I have enough trouble with #touchscreens, and I'm sighted. I can't imagine how difficult it is for you.
Where I am, #retail locations are replacing their older POS #payment terminals with newer-generation ones that ditch the #keypad for a touchscreen. The pads of my fingers are thick and dry and don't activate them well; it takes 3 or 4 tries to activate each "button" press.
How on earth are the blind supposed to use these?

I have a history with USB peripherals that provide Extra Buttons. Besides the El Gato Stream Deck, I have a Shuttle Pro (purchased at MacWorld NYC!) and a Belkin Nostromo SpeedPad n50. Various other USB button-festooned peripherals abound in a box.
I always have grand plans for extra buttons that are dashed against the hard reality of Figuring Out How to Program and Use the Peripheral.
