Recently someone told us that #KindnessIsPunkAF so we’re wondering what are your punk acts of kindness?
They also sent us some examples from their own life to help get you started:
- Someone in Australia handmade a puzzle box for me and sent it via a mutual friend all the way to Seattle with a 4-page letter as a thank you.
- Someone bought me a used electric guitar as a thank you.
@catsalad I know this is all in good fun and chaos. But if anyone is interested this is an accessibility issue.
Tabs are configurable width characters and can be customized to the needs of the user. For instance, if someone with low visibility is using a screen magnifier then they can set the tabs to be compact and see the indentation in context of the code. Tabs might also need to be made wider to help users follow indentation more easily. Also, screen reader users are able to track indentation with tabs (two levels of indent vs 4 or 8 or 16 spaces, which is it?).
So tabs put the consumer in control of how they can most effectively consume the information. Also, capitalizing hashtags helps screen readers, you're not a dork for doing it, you're punk AF!
A good while back, when I was in a really dark place, someone on Fedi paid me a nice compliment that made my day. I saved it.
I've been saving them ever since—every time someone's compliment makes my day better.
I have hundreds now.
All these little snapshots of kindness.
I look at them when I'm feeling down and having intrusive thoughts sometimes—they always make me feel better about the world, and about myself.
This last week, on a trip, while talking with several extended family members, I noticed that I was hearing the same tone in a lot of the conversations.
It was very 🤷🤦🙎🙅😡😤😩...
My partner and I also took psychic chip-damage from unintentional/passive transphobia and sexism throughout the trip.
In response, I decided that it's time to double down...on being kind.
Sure, I'll still loudly call out bullshit when I see it, but I decided that I need to redouble—neigh 🐴—retriple my efforts to be kind and helpful and wholesome(-ish) to everyone.
Because being kind to someone when they need it most is worth more to the community than me yelling at conservatives (but still, fuck those guys).

If you see something, say something! Call them out and make sure they hear you!
- "Hey! I like your shoes!"
- "Thank you for opening that jar for me!"
- "I'm glad you're here!"
- "Do you need a hug??"
- "The world is better because I know you're in it!"
- "Your hair looks great!"
- "Daamn! Have you been working out?"
- "I hope you have a lovely day!"
You never know which act of kindness will make all the difference to someone, so take every opportunity to be kind. Your kind words today may be why they're still around tomorrow.
Also, it's a great way to make friends.
This post is basically my brain's response to itself whenever seeing what new nonsense and wasteful cruelty is in the headlines today
Our capitalist society will gladly spend $100 a day to punish someone for being hungry instead of $10 to feed them because it a very cost-effective way of teaching the rest of us to stay in line lest we too get the stick.
In regards to making the line go up, creating human misery is a desirable side-effect as it allows more (temporary) distractions and relief to be sold. This behavior by those riding high on the line is 100% logical. It is a system where empathy and kindness are weaknesses, a system where the optimal behavior is psychopathic.
If you are satisfied with how it has played out for you, help maintain the status quo by being cold and uncaring. Beware: Any attempts to assist others without extracting maximum compensation could disrupt the balance and tip this system into different behavior patterns.
