#LSA2023

#LSA2023 - call for papers: CRN 38, International Socio-Legal Feminisms, aims to provide a platform for discussion of research addressing feminist perspectives on law. For over a decade, CRN 38 has supported research from a variety of legal jurisdictions. All approaches to socio-legal methodologies are welcome. I was really happy to see work from the Caribbean and Creoles, particularly Prof. Devonish's (University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica), shouted out at the #LSA2023 as models of bilingual language education. It doesn't happen enough.

It was lovely to see old friends and meet new people at #LSA2023 this weekend!

For those interested in doing linguistics communication to broader audiences, the online #LingComm23 conference I mentioned is Feb 6-10 and I hope to see you there!

Weeeelp, looks like the ADS registration option was not intended to give anyone virtual access to #LSA2023 plenaries or WOTY after all. So now they want those of us who used it to pay $425 retroactively for the access they accidentally gave us. Stay classy, LSA.

Email text: “Hello - we received your registration for ADS only for our Annual Meeting. Please note - unless you are presenting at the ADS virtual poster session only - you must pay the entire conference fee. Please
Reply to this email to let me know your status.
You may call me at [REDACTED] with your
credit card information to pay for your full registration”

Marantz talking about pseudo-morphology of words like 'brother' and 'vulnerable', I'm reminded of this line from the underappreciated 1991 classic Oscar #LSA2023

I like Alec Marantz's observation in this #LSA2023 plenary - when we encounter an unfamiliar face we don't call it a non-face, so people encountering new words shouldn't call them non-words

Linguists - I’m helping run the unofficial slack for #LSA2023 again. Come say hi and talk about anything LSA related. We have a live chat channel for the #WOTY2022 vote tonight as well!

DM me if you’d like the join link (If you were on it last year you already have a login)

#LSA2023 An interesting consequence of segregation: Oralism was not extended to Black Deaf schools, which typically remained manualist in instruction and in some cases took in Deaf teachers who had lost their jobs in white Deaf schools when oralism came to dominate.

@Slatteryz @foundhistory @dh @histodons Also #aiascs2023 and #lsa2023. A big week-end for excluding people who don't think it's safe to organize indoor meetings, lectures and parties during an airborne pandemic! #linguistics

Q for any other #linguists experiencing #LSA2023 and #ADS2023 fomo. Is the #WordProm (#WOTY2022) going to be accessible online this year? If so, what's the schedule?
