Teaching myself the ocarina is going well. I've almost memorized which fingering goes with which letter goes with which place on the musical staff. I can (slowly) play any song that stays on a single staff from lower C to upper F.
I practice when I think I'm alone, but nothing is guaranteed... apologies to anyone who heard me toot and warble "Red River Valley" Frere Jacques" and "Scarborough Fair" last night.
Also! I think I lucked out that the ocarina I bought at a toy store, modeled after the one from the Zelda game, is actually a tuned and playable instrument. Reading today that a lot of them are not, they are just props or toys. Sad for all the kids who end up with one.

A blue ceramic 12-hole ocarina with a triforce symbol in gold on the mouthpiece. You can tell this is a real instrument and not a toy because of its size and by the distribution of the finger holes, they are in two lines of 4 (for the 4 fingers of each hand). There is also space to hold onto the instrument at each end even when all the finger holes are uncovered.

Seven attendees dropped by the learn to play event which volunteers from the San Francisco area held at KublaCon last Saturday. The players in the photo are well into their second game, having swapped sides and restarted immediately after their first one!

Even better, #Netrunner now is *not* a TCG! Each time you buy a set of cards, it's complete, they're the same for everyone. No need to gamble on what cards you get, no need to trade for cards you want.

And yeah, it's amazingly cool that a not-for-profit can run a game (making new sets, releasing, supporting events, loads of work) with such great result.
