Never played it myself, but I'm fascinated by how Level 9's game Lancelot depicts the Holy Grail as a silver chalice on the box art, and silver with a gilt inner bowl on the Atari ST & Amiga title screens, but as a gold chalice in the DOS port.

The box art for Level 9's text adventure Lancelot, showing the Holy Grail as a silver chalice emitting a beam of white light upwards, on a black background. The Atari ST title screen for Lancelot, showing the Holy Grail as a silver chalice with a gilt inner bowl, and red, yellow, and green gems adorning its exterior. The title screen for the DOS port of Lancelot, which squishes the game graphics to half the vertical size of the Atari and Amiga versions in order to run in high-res EGA. Here the color of the outer surface of the Grail is changed, so that the chalice appears to be made of gold throughout, rather than silver with a gilt interior. The gems are left as they were.A version of the Lancelot DOS title screen with the image vertically stretched in order to provide a better comparison with the Atari ST title screen.

I enjoyed this one much more. Similar time travel theme, no graphics (in this version at least), but clearly superior game design.

I'm currently playing #Level9 #interactiveFiction #textAdventure game Knight Orc from 1987. Which feels almost like a #MUD with many autonomous NPCs running around, fighting and grabbing treasure! And has some very unusual command shortcuts, as shown in the image of part of the manual. A very intriguing game. Which can get into unwinnable states, like Melbourne House's The Hobbit. But I am very much enjoying it. Will write up more thoughts after. #80sGames #ComputerGames #RetroGaming #British

Some of the command shortcuts, e.g. FOLLOW <person>, GO TO <place> (which works out the sequence of moves needed), RUN TO <place> (like GO TO but faster), and FIND <object> to go to a place with a specific object.

Someone's ported the Level 9 text adventure engine + game data for the BBC Micro to Python. While I was mince at these, I know many people were fond of them.
