Das Betriebssystem der Instanz https://bayerwald.social wurde heute von Ubuntu 22.04 LTS auf 24.04.1 LTS aktualisiert. Das Release-Upgrade verlief völlig problemlos.
Mit diesem Schritt wurde ImageMagick durch libvips ersetzt.

Mastodon 4.3.0-beta.1 supports #libvips ≥ 8.13.

With Ubuntu 22.04 sudo apt install libvips42 installs libvips 8.12.

I haven't found a way to install 8.13 or higher yet.

Ubuntu 24.04 seems to ship a higher version (8.15 IIRC).

I know there are some #Mastodon developer types here on Mastodon. Unsurprisingly.

In the forthcoming Mastodon 4.3 release there's a new dependency on #libvips, requiring a version >=8.13, but #Debian 11 only has 8.10 -- Debian 12 has 8.14.

Does anyone know if there's a plan afoot for supporting Mastodon on a Debian 12 back-end, with accompanying changes in the docs?

Debian 11 reaches EOL in 24 days.

If you use libvips or sharp to process untrusted input, please ensure you're using the latest versions to avoid CVE-2023-40032, which is a new vulnerability relating to SVG detection.

Highlights are support for n-colour profiles, faster pyramid building (up to 3x faster), faster image array construction (up to 2x faster), threaded decompression for TIFFs with JPEG and JPEG2000 tiles, and a (very basic) bash completion script.

One week to go until the next #libvips London meetup, which will be taking place in Soho on the evening of Thursday 5th January.

Expect a little bit of image processing related discussion, all very informal, plus food and drinks will be provided.
