Today years old to learn some people call it "SAD: Singles Awareness Day" RE: Valentine's Day.

IDK if they're being lighthearted, sarcastic, caustic but I'm of the opinion that it's empowering to be single. It's just another state of being: I think love and partnership is beautiful AND ALSO so is being powerfully alone and happy to be free to do what you like i.e. not get married at a certain age because society will label you a spinster (this speaks to women's pressure to get married and have kids by a certain age).

It's fine to be single, in fact, it's better to be single than be in an unfulfilling relationship or marriage. It takes 2 to make a home and if you haven't found that person, I sure hope you are that person for yourself.

One of my favourite features, that I thought would be a pain, is the expectation to describe each image you post. It adds greater context to those without visual impairment whilst making sure those with visual impairment are not left out #mastodonmusings

Y'know what weirds me out the most on Mastodon? The fact that when you hit the repost button it just does it, no two options to choose from. Trips me up every time. Guess I've got some muscle memory to untrain.

I'm very thankful to the people kind enough to post lists of Twitter people migrating here. There are some important voices holding the leaders of the world accountable and I want to be able to read what they have to say.

But...

Please do not think that this place is just bird app 2.0. There is so much more out there waiting to be discovered. Search for hashtags of things that interest you and you will be amazed. I have already found so many people working on books and projects that sound amazing and people with interesting ideas doing great things. This reset could be the best thing to happen out of this mess.

Over on the other place I see lots of folk being a little disparaging about Mastodon "it's too tricky to understand", "I'll do it as a last resort", it's so slow, "nothing happens", "such a faff", "CBA" etc
I get why that is, but it reminded me of climate change attitudes.

In years to come there'll be a billionaire on a satellite somewhere explaining to his kid that life on earth was destroyed by apathy
