Realmente, sono rimasto con tipo 5 contatti activitypub nel mio canale streams, ed ho appena avuto un coma di 8 lunghi minuti 😱
La questione non è quanti contatti activitypub io ho, ma quanti seguitori/seguiti ha la persona alla quale io mi sono rivolto scrivendo un commento in un suo post. Se codesta persona ha tipo 700 contatti, allora nel mio sito arriveranno nello stesso identico momento così tantissime richieste, che riusciranno a mandare in coma il mio sito nel giro di un minuto dopo il mio commento, e lasciarcelo per x minuti.

Once again, #Threads going Federated doesn't mean the Fediverse is taken over by #Meta. It means people can escape from Meta, and there's no need for journalists et al to have accounts on Threads just to keep in touch with others on the same platform.

And as for privacy... they can suck just as much information out of the #Mastoverse not being a (public) part of it as being a public part of it.

Also, the risk of fediblocks (assuming instance admins aren't stupid enough to pre-emptively #fediblock them) will force them to moderate out the Nazis, which will help everyone and get those off of mainstream platforms.

It's a win-win if they do federation. And bad news if large individual instances decide to pre-emptively fediblock them.

Really not trying to be negative, and actually just thinking out loud. So far, and I might have missed it all, I haven't seen much activity from #mastoverse platforms, especially given how many there are.

Obviously "failure" is in the eye of the beholder and a strong word. But my general axe-to-grind is to ask what it means if a platform/format is mostly left to fend for itself and what it means for how to think about what can/should be built here.

Currently, popular Fediverse software does very little to establish the legal status of posts. Controversy over indexing and scraping the Fediverse is common. The hope is that providing a legal framework to express the desires of users as to how their content may be re-used might bring order to this debate.

Some thoughts about #fullsearch of federated-with instances. 🧵 1/2

1. Conflating any ill will you have with Supernovae at #Universeodon, with the issue of search indexing on the Fediverse to justify your fediblock won't help resolve the issues around search.

2. It isn't global search. While we shout, lock down, and don't participate in building the additions to our protocols that the #Fediverse needs, we've been letting #Google index the Fediverse. It's already searchable and Google's new Perspectives tab is going to make it even easier. Maybe we could fight that rather than keep thinking it doesn't exist and continuing to write ineffective Facebook-viral style "I do not give permission..." copypasta?

3. The #Fediverse does not respect your do-not-index-my-posts flag. It never has. It can't. It's not supported by the #Mastodon API, as @supakaity@blahaj.zone explains, and nor is it supported at #ActivityPub level and will need to be added into a new AP protocol.

Every instance server from the #Misskey (#Calckey, #Foundkey), #Pleroma (#Akkoma), and #Friendica (#Hubzilla, #Streams) lineages has full search of federated-with instances as default. All these services actually pre-date the creation of Mastodon in 2016 you can read @Polychrome@poly.cyber.city 's post for their commentary on such. Fediblock all of them to create your very own #Mastoverse or you could become part of building a better, safer, Fediverse? Perhaps through participating in the Fediverse Enhancement Proposals? #FEP

It's kind of both equally sad and equally hilarious to see some folks in the #Mastoverse raging about Universeodon are genuinely shook to suddenly discover that the wider #Fediverse has had federated #search available for years.

When you get told that Mastodon=Fediverse and that its culture and capabilities are those of the wider Fediverse, well this is the ignorance you can expect. Many of the same folks screaming about indexing, and pushing the fediblock, still have not offered any solutions to Google already indexing everything - much wider scope than #Universeodon, or those of use on #Misskey, #Calckey, #Akkoma, etc, can achieve and it's searchable from the public web.
