“Perseus with the Head of Medusa” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I decided to crop out the most relevant part, because the world has seen enough violence towards vilified women.

A view of the back of the marble statue “Perseus with the Head of Medusa” (1804-6) by Antonio Canova, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The statue stands off-center to the left, seen from the buttocks up. Perseus is naked except for a flowing drape over his left arm, which extends out of frame. He wears a winged helmet, his curly hair peeking out as he looks left. His right arm hangs low, the hand gripping a short sword with a hook protruding from the blade’s edge. In the background is a shadowy doorway surrounded by an enormous stone frame with carved ornamentation. Above is a glimpse of the curve of a stone arch and some green metal bars. Sunlight from an unseen skylight above falls on the statue, accentuating its musculature and giving it a warm-toned glow.

I have goosebumps & I'm not even in the room... 🤯🥰 Arms & Armour conservator Ted Hunter shows Adam an actual, genuine "samurai sword", i.e. katana, blade & it's even more beautiful than all the hype surrounding this item would suggest 😻💛

This is obviously "rich people overdoing it" stuff, which Japanese history apparently has a lot of - but godDAMN if it didn't produce some unbelievable pieces of art & craftsmanship.
