This folk-pop hit sounds melancholic but the lyrics are a little more quotidian, if not fully upbeat. Juust remembered to play at the last possible minute.

Yikes I nearly missed #tunetuesday on #mismatchmusic, tunes where music and lyrics are at odds in tone or emotion.
A few protest songs came up, such as Country Joe and the Fish "Feel-Like-I'm-Fixing-To-Die Rag", but I ended closer to home with the Undertones.
It's Gonna Happen, pure pop joyfulness which happens to be about hunger strikes in Northern Ireland circa 1981. Definitely one of those where you need to check the lyrics.

The song sounds like all hell is breaking loose, but he's just asking his mother to make him potato salad with onions and pickles because he's inviting his friends over so he's not alone anymore.

The first thing that comes to mind is 'Born in the USA' by Bruce Springsteen. It sounds patriotic, but the lyrics tell a different story about the poor being sent off to war to fight/die for the rich men. The chorus is meant to be sarcastic!! Don't tell MAGA. They love this song. 😅
