I've finally set up a reduced-distraction desktop on my computer, so I'm doing some writing (in lieu of doomscrolling)

and by hoping to find a description of a "mountable curb" on #NACTO, I learn that they've updated their Urban Bikeway Design Guide!

Can't wait until it's available on the website.

We miss Bike Portland and others on the bird siteโ€”but not enough to make us return to that platform.

ICYMI, it was thanks to #BikePortland that we are aware of the following #ProtectedBikeLane design guide from City of Portland, Oregon: portland.gov/transportation/en

When Jonathan Maus / Bike Portland wrote about that guide 10/15/21 (bikeportland.org/2021/10/15/le) he said: "According to League of American Bicyclists / #BikeLeague Policy Director Ken McLeod, guides like this one are โ€˜rare.โ€™ He says none of the other top cycling cities in America like Madison, Boulder, or Davis have such detailed operating instructions for protected bike lanes. Their plans usually just reference national guidebooks like #NACTOโ€™s Urban Bikeway Design Guide."

Great talk with #cville transportation planner Ben Chambers today. I learned that our team presented at #nacto on our important #saferoutestoschool progress here. We arenโ€™t Paris yet, but we are moving forward. charlottesville.gov/565/Safe-R

@TheWarOnCars Better regulation is needed a) of the cars by NHTSA, such as speed governors blocking unsafe acceleration and top speed or best case, blocking all speeding in every speed zone, incl school and construction
reg. of hood height/ram bars, lifts, front end blind zone
b) scrap MUTCD car centric l8z engineer junk that plops down highway designs through cities and pretends they can be 30mph zones-- and switch to . Stroad diets all around. Raised crosswalks. Safer lane width. DO IT.

Stefanie Seskin served as #Boston's Director of Active Transportation for 8 years before leaving to join #NACTO this fall. In this interview, she talks about her new role, and reflects on how much #Boston's streets have changed in the past 8 years:

New report from #NACTO shows how "Shared #micromobility has proven itself to have ... value as a resilient and essential part of our transportation systems."

Currently, most US systems try to cover whole cities with 1,000 or fewer bikes. Empty bike racks often end up frustrating people who cannot complete trips.

Soon, city leaders will wake up to #bikeshare as a low-cost, effective way to address climate and equity, and the bikeshare systems of many cities will grow.

The system has more than 10,000 bikes, more than 2,000 stations, covering all 5 boroughs, though most bikes are in Manhattan and Brooklyn. NYC is about 300 square miles. The NYDoT invests staff and resources to make bike share a valuable part of the city's transportation network.
