Mikel made the point after Nigeria missed key chances in qualifiers. See his wider comments in our report on Davido hails Osimhen hat-trick.

He noted years of service at youth and senior levels for Nigeria. “I will not have corruption tied to me,” he said.

Why he set this condition

Mikel has served as an honorary sports adviser in Plateau State since July 2023. That role kept him close to local sport work and youth paths, and it shaped his view on reform.

His global club record gives him broad respect in football circles. Fans and former players have urged him to step into reform work, showing clear public support.

The move comes as team decisions remain in focus after recent staff calls. See the note on captaincy and selection in our report on Super Eagles captain remains Troost-Ekong.

Mikel named key fixes he wants in any role he may take. He asked for clear pay lines, good camp conditions, and honest staff to run day-to-day work.

Analysts say a clean board could help lift player morale fast. But change needs wide support from fans, clubs, and top officials for it to stick.

He repeated that leaders must pick people who share the same goals. He said players must return to a calm camp to perform at their best.

His long career includes an AFCON win and Olympic bronze medals. That history gives him broad weight when he asks for reform.

Former teammates praised his heart for country after his remarks today. Many fans posted support on social feeds, urging leaders to listen and act.

What happens next depends on official response from the NFF board. If the board acts, Mikel may then decide to join or advise in a formal capacity.
