I'll have a new instrumental single up for Netlabel Day (July 14th), as part of Vulpiano Records' compilation for 2025. The past repeats sometimes, y'know?

My song is a synthy instrumental track of mourning, grief, and fighting until the end. Until you can't.

Here's the cover art.

#NetlabelDay2025 #NetlabelDay #MastoArt #Netlabels

Cover art for Osiris Saline's Netlabel Day 2025 song "Effort & Loss". The name of the artist fits nicely over a piece by Tinus van Doorn. The piece is Passagieren [1935] by Tinus van Doorn, an expressionist who struggled and created incredible pieces, up until his and Annie Vermeulen's own end under the Nazis.

"I've been steadily growing Netlabel Day these past four years now," says Willey, "but there is still a lot more to accomplish.

"This year I've teamed up with the kind folks at Friends of Creative Commons and created Netlabel Week—because one day is not enough. Netlabel Week will feature concerts, streams, and panels on various topics. It's really 9.5 days, from 11–20 July, but if we can have 51 hours in a day for the Netlabel Day Radio broadcast, we can have 9.5 days in a week!"

Added to listening log:

Ananta - Inside My Room, Watching The Rain

A 4-hour minimalist "lo-fi" drone-ambient tribute to rain

Hint: use the direct mp3 link to listen / download - the player-transcoded version seems to have encoding artifacts.

If you don't have a specific idea but like the idea of free courses targeted at musicians plz lmk. Otherwise we'll just be looking at video views.

Also, if you'd be interested in giving a course, please lmk!

If you aren't a musician but involved w/ or also interested in your opinion. Although musician is a broad demographic from billionaires to buskers, I still think it's more targeted than the Netlabel scene. Also, we aren't going to have billionaires involved.

The problem w/ as a term is that the current world is vastly different from when that term originated. or includes any shareable license, not limiting to and doesn't limit just to

Like netaudio, Netlabel fails as a term since many musicians release sans label. While @wiloma's definition of label seems technically correct to me, it not only fails for the same reasons as netaudio but also folks just dont intuitively view labels his way

, wondering if you would be interested in a free* introductory course on Statistics, Data Analysis & Machine Learning.

To be clear, we are NOT going to be talking about making music w/ AI. You don't need a math teacher w/ a decade+ of experience & a guy w/ an Information Science degree telling you how to make music.

If there are specifics you'd like to cover, lmk!

*released under CC BY-SA but also live Q&A session on Jitsi. open to all but targeted at musicians.

The time has come to start signing up for DJ slots. Same system as what was used last year: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d

Any genre is welcome.

Please send questions and pre-recorded sets to @wiloma at info@netlabelday.org.

Separately, you can also have a release. You can find more info about that process at beige.party/@musicman/11459744 (there is also some additional information about the the DJ slots there I couldn't get in the char limit)

Pulled this from Omar's facebook:

Officially, Netlabel Day 2025 begins this year at 15 July 2024 Line Island Time (GMT+14)
Send me at info@netlabelday.org the linkz at least one track, one album, one playlist under a free sharing license (usually Creative Commons), and ensure it is released either without cost or pay-what-you-can for at least the week of 14 July through 20 July. It can even be a single track, freely licensed, from a normally full-price album.
If you have no music you want to release on 14 July itself, I will accept ANY album or single or mixtape or radio show or vodcast or playlist ALREADY RELEASED IN 2025,
If you're keen to do a mix or a show, live or recorded: Check the fancy spreadsheet to behold the majestic timeline of 51 hours, spanning all time zones across the world. You can choose your slot for chaos. Drop me a show between 15-120 minutes (you choose) in which you can do DJ mixes, perform live studio music, spin vinyl, chop bits, promote the cause of sonic anarchy, etc. Please be sure you lean heavily on Creative Commons music in the mix.
If you're keen to livestream a concert on the Netlabel Day Radio station, sign up as above for your chosen slot.
And again if you don't have new music, anthologies rule. I myself put together several last year from Magnatune, Jazz Goa, Jazzaria, and Musopen. Even better if they have liner notes of some sort so that we can educate folks about this crazy wide world of Creative Commons, Art Libre, GPL, PD, and otherwise freely licensed music that tells corporate music to go pleasure itself in a corner somewhere.
info@netlabelday.org is the default address for shenanigans, but contact.netlabelday@gmail.com or omar@seattlestar.net works, too

We still need 3 artists and 3 for the panels on Saturday, July 12. Artists do not need to be affiliated with a to participate.

The panels will take place on jitsi.

The point is simply to get folks together and talk about where we are as a community heading into the 11th

Panels moderated by @wiloma.

Plz lmk if you are interested.

Setting up your own regional panels is highly encouraged. Lmk if you need help with setting things up

Was reading a blog post where I said I don't like the term . It is largely for the same reason "moving to the cloud" is so stupid.

But Cloud Native means something. perhaps Net Native Audio can mean something too.

Perhaps the same thing can be applied to though I think has a meaning most people that would actually care about such a thing understand even if it's slightly amorphous. In any case, something to think about for folks

The latest episode of Radio BSOTS (a special extended edition) has made its way over to Mixcloud. Two hours of Creative Commons tunes presented last year during a debut live stream for Netlabel Day Radio. Selections culled from the Free Music Archive, Bandcamp, Jamendo, and several netlabels such as @blocsonic Mahorka, Silent Flow, Upitup, and Southern City's Lab. Hip-hop, soul, spoken word, sound collages, and more.
