Sometimes the mental pain is associated with a physical headache, but often it is just overwhelming cognition. I use a sleep mask with Bluetooth speakers and specific EMDR-like audio to let me cope, nap, and reset.
The comment “our innate need to show and see each other’s faces” really explained mask hesitancy to me in a way that had never occurred to me. Part of my place in the neuroverse is that making eye contact, especially with strangers, is uncomfortable for me, and I tend to do it sparingly. After six decades of not realizing just how different neurotypical folks are, I’m finally coming to terms with how they differ.

Just now I misread "Neurodiverse" as "Neuroverse", and I loved intensely the idea of using #Neuroverse as a fully inclusive way to describe the whole multi-dimensional space of our brains and their mysterious ways.
So I'm keeping it! The neuroverse. ❤️
