I've misplaced reset button hole in opl3 version of course, will fix it in next iteration. Several screws are too long in fm3 version, need to trim them down few millimeters, but it's not visible..

I will probably add either label and/or bezel cart name on top, maybe some minor tweaks will be needed. So, now i need to solder new pcb versions and assemble the whole thing.. 😛
This is a Yamaha OPL2. Sanded down and relabeled with a bogus datecode! Why do they do this...? So annoying. It works, but the original markings would have been much more useful.

looking for tips on how to give #opl3 #opl2 #adlib #ymf262 kick drums more utility. I can also dedicate a channel to kick rather than the kit so it may be played chromatically, primarily, how could I get a downward sweep in pitch w/ this basic fm synthesis?

I've improved NokturnFM2/3 carts a little, I've added plastic spacers, so they will not hang on rom port (got to drill bigger holes in pcb, due M2,5 spacers) and I've changed old linear potentiometer to logarythmic in NokturnFM2, which was good choice, because on old one in the middle of the range i've got audio distortions (no surprise). I also experiment with alternative opamps on both cart types. #atarist #nokturnfm #opl2 #opl3
I've just ordered parts for small batch of NokturnFM2, NokturnFM3 carts (10pcs each). Ordering parts is exhausting.. Took me like 5h today. Hopefully I had BOM list with links to parts, which halved the amount of work needed to assembly everything. Worst thing is syncing order with existing electronic parts inventory (to not end up with alot of unused parts). #atarist #opl2 #opl3 #nokturnfm I've also decided to give up cartridge case for now.
Finally finished rebuilding my #chiptune and video workflow on Linux, so now for some new covers! This one is JCH's "Commercial Rhythm", originally a FastTracker module, now on Yamaha #YM3812 (#OPL2).

#atarist #opl2 #opl3 just received new pcb's with fixed 'reverted' data bus.I've submitted also final version of pcbs to production.Probably i will test them next week. If they will be ok, then i guess it will be end of this journey. The only thing will be improving software. I've also got name for both cartridges: NokturnFM3 and NokturnFM2.FM for frequency modulation synthesis,2 or 3 stands for OPL type, nokturn - has musical meaning, development was during late nights and my site is nokturnal.

#atarist #opl2 so my secret opl2 cartridge works. Turns out if you connect address lines not in reverse order things start to work 🤣. I've made similar mistake in opl3 version. Stared on this error for months on schematics without noticing.. What a relief. Fortunately i could patch it on driver level, but still pcb needs to be fixed. Funny thing is that i've looked at schematics by accident briefly today and i thought after looking at cart interface wtf i was thinking then...
