I'm skimming this year's #OSDI's proceedings because operating systems are 🆒.
Let’s get this party started! #usenix #osdi25 #usenixatc25 #osdi #usenixatc
Looks like I'll be attending The Last USENIX ATC (and OSDI)

So, there is #OSDI (operating #systems #design & implementation). Where is OS UX (user #experience) design? A forgotten trait?
Next time somebody tells you that that microkernels are useless, impractical and/or have poor performance, let them read this:
"We have deployed HM on tens of millions of devices, including smart routers, smart vehicles, and smartphones, which provides not only better security and reliability but also better performance than their Linux counterparts." [1]

At last a full-fledged microkernel paper at a major OS conference again: "Microkernel Goes General: Performance and Compatibility in the HongMeng Production Microkernel" at OSDI'24. Co-authored by many of my former colleagues from Huawei OS Kernel Lab (Haibo Chen, Hui Wang et al.). Congratulations and really looking forward to reading the full text! #microkernel #osdi #os #hongmeng https://www.usenix.org/conference/osdi24/presentation/chen-haibo

Goodbye Pittsburgh, hello Toronto!
Here for a few days to run #OSDI Toronto.
If you’re into Open Source Data and Infrastructure consider hanging out with me on Wednesday!

congrats to all the #osdi submitters with good news waiting in their inbox!
Wow, what a great day at #OSDI/#ATC today.
Early to mid December is the busiest time on the #CloudLab testbed. The two biggest factors are the #OSDI paper submission deadline and the end-of semester crunch in classes. Our users are running 609 simultaneous experiments right now!
These graphs show node availability, starting today and going out through the next several days. As you can see, almost all node types have zero or just a handful of nodes available today[*].
To help alleviate this, we've built a reservation system that allows users to request time on nodes in the future - the points on the graph past today give you a sense of what's available to be requested for reservations.
Good luck with your papers and courses, everyone!
[*] There are a lot of m400 nodes available on the Utah cluster - these are server-class ARM machines, but are several years old, hence the lower interest in them.
