i saw a pair of Jungle Owlets right outside my room some time back. one of them (not photographed) was sleeping with his head tucked under his wing but this one was out in the open and she looked like she had some kind of infection on her left eye (i'm assuming she's a girl because she was slightly bigger than the other one)

a small and very round owlet perched on a branch surrounded by lots of green foliage, looking straight at the camera. her plumage has streaks all through — her head and chest is light brown with darker brown streaks and her belly is white with brown streaks. curiously, her left eye looks infected and has a kind of swelling all around, including on the eyelid and she doesn't seem to be able to open it fully. her right paw is slightly raised.

“I'm such a lucky man. This Barred Owl was flying around, calling and trying to avoid me and my camera. Then I gave up on it. After a few minutes, it shows up out of nowhere looking at me with this snake and stayed there for 30 seconds or so. What was it trying to say? It must have a few mouths to feed being out at noon like this.” - Brian Plath

“It took me 35 days of searching to finally find this one. I didn't give her a name, I gave her a number. She was #1 of 5.

#1 had already been in her home roost for weeks by the time I found her. 15+ pellets were below her tree, and a giant puddle of white wash too. She decided to stay there another 116 days in a row after.” - MN Owl Tours

“Here’s looking at you, kid!

This barred owl was interested in my movements as I was in the swamp in full camouflage. I was looking for subjects to take pics of and she flew right over me and I did not hear her. It’s true that owls fly silently. It is so cool.” - Will Huff

“One of the perks of photographing abandoned structures is the possibility of finding creatures taking shelter within their walls. The Great Horned Owl commonly dwells in derelict buildings, and of course, I am always happy to discover one! It sure beats encountering pigeons who scare the doo-doo out of me when they unexpectedly fly out of windows.” - Lisa Jones

@BrianJopek @junglegeorge Beautiful.

Here’s a Barred Owl we saw on a swamp trail in New Orleans recently. Such beautiful creatures! It also treated us with a silent fly away.
